Can colonoscopy affect Gerd

Posted , 2 users are following.

My husband suffers from Gerd. His only symptom is a bad cough. It took a few months of taking omneprazol before the cough got better. Before that, his cough kept us both awake at night, it was so bad. Three weeks ago he failed the poo test and had to have a colonoscopy. Unfortunately, they found a small cancer which we are told is treatable, thank goodness. But, since the colonoscopy and a scan for which he had to drink a barium prep, his cough has been dreadful again. Could all the preps have affected the Gerd by undoing all the good done by the omneprazol? Has anyone else had this problem?

I have acid reflux and  have to take Omeprazole every day-(I also have Hay fever)which doesn't help- back of throat gets uncomfortable and I have a permanent tickle in my throat -

Have you told your GP about your husbands cough ?

He may also have a sensitivity to the prep ?

I had bowel cancer 2015 they took my tumour out and I didn't have any after treatment.

Anxiety can also make the cough worse-that is what I think.

    Best wishes

      Hi Susan,

Thanks for your reply. The GPS diagnosed my husband's Gerd after years of him having a cough which nothing would cure. He is a smoker so everyone assumed that was the cause of the cough. However, his new GP knew immediately what caused it because he himself suffered from the same symptom! He prescribed Omneprazol and, after quite a few weeks, it started to work and the cough disappeared. Since all the procedures and diagnosis though, it's returned with a vengeance. Could well be stress. Trouble is, it disturbseems his sleep (and mine), which doesn't help. I might ring the local pharmacist to see what he suggests.

      Hi pennyjane

Try a little Vick- rub on the outside of the throat/or inhaling menthol.I also use a Sterimar salt spray in my nose which seems to help clear the back of the throat a bit.(Stops compulsive spluttering).

Any of these might help your husband-I hope so.

      Regards

      Susan
