Can Genital Herpes be passed Orally?

Posted , 4 users are following.

I'm a little but confused.. I have read that hsv type 1 can be spread orally, but if I never have syptoms around my mouth, only genitally, how high is the risk of passing hsv through kissing? I'd imagine it would be quite low? I'm not entirely sure so any help would be great! x

If you don't have hsv 1 then I don't think there's any concern with kissing

If your outbreaks are in your genital areas then it's hsv 2. Hsv 1 is the "cold sore" virus

Not true! I am in the same situation, HSV1 but no oral symptoms

I've been thinking the same thing as I'm in the same situation, would be helpful to see what people know!

I as well have HSV1 only genitally. Whomever stated that if you have outbreaks in the genital area it is HSV2 was incorrect. I got the virus through oral sex (my partner had a bit of a cold sore). Like myself it is possible to have HSV1 down there without having it on your mouth. It is a regional virus, if your mouth has not been exposed there is no reason you should have it in that area.
