Can genital hsv1 be passed onto my partners mouth ?

Hey!

I have genital herpes type 1 have had it for about a year. Had one bad first outbreak and nothing since, to my knowledge. If my new partner gives me oral sex can he get it orally if he doesn't already have the virus? (I know they say most people have hsv1 in USA but I'm from UK) I'm not sure if he has the virus or not we haven't got to the point of discussing it yet I'm just trying to get prepared. Also can anyone let know if they have ever passed it on genital to genital too?

Please help.

Two-thirds of the *world's* population carry HSV1, not just the US. I'm sure you'll find the UK rate pretty similar, but lower for HSV2 (US is definitely higher for that). I don't believe there are any confirmed cases of proven genital to genital transmission of HSV1. That doesn't mean it's not possible, only that it's hard to prove and/or quite unlikely. In theory, it's possible to pass it to a person's mouth, but again, I don't think it's very common. There are no stats for either scenario.

Thank you for your reply. You hear a lot of people catching genital hsv1 from receiving oral which is obviously the most common way to catch hsv1. But I don't hear many stories of someone catching oral hsv1 from giving oral to someone who has ghsv1. Herpes is such a hard thing to fully understand as their are so many ifs and maybes. I suppose anything is possible when it comes to hsv taking as many precautions as possible is the best way to avoid transmitting. Would you say to just avoid sex/oral when I'm having an outbreak (although I've only had one outbreak in a year) to avoid transmitting, I know we have shedding but I hear the less you outbreak the less you shed, is this true?

This guy I had oral sex with then later said he has genital herpes. I went to the nurse and then sexual health clinic and she said it would be unlikely to catch it. Depends if you have breakout near the time and all that. Theres always risks

Thanks for your reply. Didthey explain why it would be unlikely to catch it? I know they might say that as such a high percentage have oral hsv1 anyway, but that's not everyone. Knowing my luck the guy I'm seeing probably doesn't.
