Can hormonal changes affect or can relax the lower esophageal sphincter leading to acid reflux

I read somewhere that pre menopause hormonal changes can be the culprit in the abnormal movement of the lower esophageal sphincter. Has anyone encountered this? Please answer. Thanks! I really need support at this point in time.

I don't do progesterone. I tried it in the past and got my levels too high and felt symptoms like I was pregnant. I am sure I needed some estrogen with it.

Hi everyone, I hope you are all doing better with your hormonal tweaking and the symptoms. Recently I have also developed this lump in throat (globus sensation), and a bit of GERD like symptoms (a lot of burping which is atypical for me, and occasionally a slight burning in upper chest). It seemed to have come on with stress, however the stressful event subsided and the symptoms persist. I was on Orilissa for the past few months to stop my periods, and use some add back estrogel. However because I am not actually in menopause (late 30s), I am not sure if I can contribute this to just low estrogen, or progesterone.

Did anyone figure out if it seems to be based on just low estrogen (NO progesterone, natural or supplemented), or low estrogen and some level of progesterone in your system?

I've had a lot of PMS symptoms, and have stopped the orilissa to see if my GERD symptoms improve and if my period will begin. I will try to remember to follow up with what happens post period and/or once I have the complete hysterectomy and oophorectomy that I am supposed to have in the near future. It would be nice to clear this up before I have permanent surgical menopause to know what I'm getting into long term.

I too am experiencing lpr symptoms that seem to be more frequent on ppi treatment. I am now in the process of swapping to a h2 anatagonist and worried about this and the rebound symptoms in the next few weeks. I think the cimetidine will be less effective and as I am unable to cope witht he symptoms now am very worried about my future. I have spoken to sveral different drs with varying advice. I am looking at testsing with the sibo test and hormonal blood profiles to see if the lpr is possibly causing the lpr symptoms as it came from no where with no previous symptoms of heartburn before? I am 1 year 4 months post menopause so may or may not be relevant to me but hoping I can find a cause to elimnate symptoms for good rather than keep taking antacids which only seem to have minmal effect on lpr and mask other probelms or causes .Can any one help me with any other possible treatments or causes to look into as I am getting increasingly anxioys and unable to carry out my normal ( active) healthy lifestyle anymore. It will drive me crazy if I cannot take out my normal physical activities of going to the gym and a gentle walk.PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN -as I feel I am getting no where at the drs thank you!
