Can HPV be gotten rid of completely?

I am 16 weeks post TAH and am 42 years old. I had a child in 2000 unfortunately he only lived for 3 months and passed on. I never tried to get pregnant again. I had abnormal cancerous cells around my cervix which I was found with in 2011 and in that year I underwent a procedure called LEAP.  I was assured things would be fine. But early this year things did look like I was assured apparently the abnormal cells were spreading steadily. After consultations I was told I was to undergo Hysterectomy. I underwent hysterectomy (both cervix and uterus removed but both ovaries remained intact) on 1st July. 

But before I underwent hysterectomy I used to have warts on my minor labia of which I used to use podophyllin paint to try and get rid of them. Before the operation I had them but 8 weeks after operation all the warts disappeared and the area they used to occupy is so smooth. Does it mean the HPV is out of my body? I know HPV is the cause of warts and cervical cancer. I am scheduled to do smears every 6 months for 3 years.

    Hi,

    Sorry no. As far as I am aware once you have HPV it never goes away. Having the cervix removed will mean you cannot get cervical cancer but unfortunately the HPV will stay with you.

    I also wanted to say how sad I was  to read of the loss you have suffered. I can only imagine the struggle you have had to come to terms with things and then having to undergo a hysterectomy. You must be very strong

      Thank you Vicki24424 at least I now know the HPV is still present. It hasn't been an easy road. It was kind of depressing at times but I told myself that I will not be depressed. When I saw how my aunt suffered with cervical cancer I kept telling myself that I do not want to be in that state, its extremely painful. I keep living with a positive mind and it has helped me. Am now helping others by talking about it and encouraging them to do pap smears at least once a year.
