Surely the most important point for your mum is to get the best treatment. That means being seen and treated by the best consultant. When you find the best consultant then you will be told which hospital will be used. It is not about making things easier for visitors, family or otherwise. You want your mum back home well and feeling so much better; her needs come first.

I don't see why not. Visitors can help recovery.

You can choose whichever NHS hospital you want - don't be conned into believing otherwise. As for being seen by the 'best consultant', my own experience is that if you do not choose the hospital, your GP will choose it for you. That may well mean a hospital that is either inconvenient for you to get to (which can be a real problem for people, especially those without their own transport) or one that is less popular because it is, quite frankly, less good. I have never had a GP choose a particular Consultant, just a Hospital Do not be afraid of saying that you want to go to XXXX hospital. Your GP must listen to and respect your request. If it's more convenient for you, that is good enough.
