Why not? Tea is a slight dietetic I think, so just drink some extra water (with gout you can always do with extra water).

What treatment are you having? What is your blood urate level?

Having bloods done tomorrow, docs give me naproxen, it hasn't given me any relief yet, but I am only on my second tablet!!

Naproxen is Ibufren's big mate I believe. I think you need the naproxen but also colchesine which will slow the attack of the immune system, on your joints. (Im assuming there's no drug interaction between naproxen and colchesine). I find colchesine works in hours.

Naproxen doesn't work very fast. They say that coffee helps with gout, because it lowers the uric acid in the blood, therefore, tea might be good. Cherry juice would help more. Are you taking anything for it?

Re coffee: I read the research paper on coffee. They found that high coffee drinkers did have reduced levels of gout. But they specifically said that the evidence doesn't support drinking coffee if you already have gout. I read it over a year ago but that's my memory.

My quick check supports my memory.

But I'd say "hey, if coffee gets you up in the morning - have the coffee and a couple of glasses of water too."

If Naxopran is slow, why is it used? Is it excellent once it gets going?

Well, like my doctor, he never gave me colchicine, just suggested an anti-inflammatory.  Some doctors just see it as an arthritic flare up that doesn't happen very often while other doctors who know more about gout give colchicine.

Colchicine is a pretty heavy duty drug. Steroids, also not the greatest thing for you, will knock it down in a day to almost nothing. I have high BP, kidney, and liver issues so my options are very limited.

You are correcte, without doubt - if you have kidney issues - do not use colchesine. I also believe that even if you don't, never use more than 4 tabs per day, and never drink grapefruit juice if you're on it.

Good to know, I had no idea that if you have kidney issues not to take colchicine.

Like the others have mentioned, tea is fine. But, it is a dieretic, and dyhydration is gout's best friend. So, make sure you're getting plenty of water along with the tea.

Good luck, I know how painful it is...

Ironically, coffee is also a diuretic yet, it's good for eliminating uric acid.
