Can I ease my scalp psoriasis before my wedding in Sept ?

I've had psoriasis since I was a teen, though it was initially mis-diagnosed as dermatitis or something. For the most part it has eased off on my body (though there's a couple of small patches either side of my nose) but my scalp is ridiculously flaky. I have another condition which makes it difficult for me to wash my hair as my arms are weak. Also, I would obviously love not to have to worry about 'dandruff' on my wedding day in September 2009! Does anyone know anything which might get it to ease if only temporarily (altough I'd rather it didn't come back worse after!) ?

Also, does anyone know whether psoriatic arthritis is guaranteed in everyone with psoriasis or is it only a chance?

Finally, I read there is an increased risk of skin cancer in people who use tar based skin applications - I have been using things like Polytar and T-Gell for years and years, does anyone know whether this constitutes a risk ?

Thanks in advance - Sazz smile

    Hey Sazz,

I don't know if you tried diposalic acid which you apply to the scales on your scalp first and then you apply cocois ointment. This is normally done at night. You can get it from your doc.

You will need a hand with this I find it tricky enough to make sure I get all the patches on my scalp.

The doc my say to use it for 7 days and then to take a break. I have found it has cleared up the psoriasis for a short period of time but then it begins to creep back again.

p.s Don't have nice sheets on the bed as the ointment stains.

I hope you have a wonderful wedding.

Thanks for the reply - I used the cocois just before the wedding which helped just enough for me not to worry about it. Asked the doc this week whether there've been any recent breakthroughs which are less smelly & messy, but apparently not sad Oh well..

Oh, they did suggest this website, which I've yet to look at...:

I've tried TeaTree oil shampoo, Organixs makes a great one, all organic. I use this every day & add T-Gel for outbreaks of the psoriasis. When I was diagnosed with arthritis I thought I was dealing with Rhuematoid & thought I just had very dry scalp until a hair dresser said my scalp looked like her sisters who has psoriasis. It helped finding which arthritis I was dealing with. I was able to get rid of most of the scales with this but also drink ginger root tea;ginger root cut up small pieces added to chai tea. This has settled down the psoriasis but has not stop the joint destruction. Add honey or your favorite sweetner. I use at least a inch long piece every day. If I stop the joint redness comes back. My scales on scalp are very far & few between. Also some people rinse hair with apple cider vinegar. I've used this when itching was driving me mad in my sleep. The smell does dissapate after a hour or so. Made for a much better night sleep by using before bedtime. I bet you were a beautiful bride. Congratulations to you & your husband.
