Can I myself increase my sertraline dose?

Hello everyone I've been on sertraline for 6 years and recently its seems to not have the same effect I've been on 50mg. My doctor had suggested two weeks ago that maybe I'm depressed and that the dosage is not working anymore. My question is can I just try taking 75mg to see how I do? Or is that a bad idea?

I too have been on Sertraline for 6 years on 50 mg. Sometimes i feel its probably not working as well as before but i have made a promise to myself not to be tempted to raise the dosage. I am able to manage my anxiety issues with 50 mg because of this.

Hi.  I don't think sertraline is particularly strong.   Due to my circumstances causing me depression, my Doctor put me on 50g daily.  After 5 weeks this was not working very well, and the doctor increased it to 100g. daily This is working fairly well, but still my mood plunges occasionally and I have felt the need to increase it myself to 150g. on certain occasions.  I am now coping on 100g. daily.  Just a word of protection, do not take sertraline with the strong pink ibuprufen tablets for inflammation.  The combination is not allowed and can make you feel very ill.  This was my Pharmacist's recommendation to me.  Keep well.
