Can IBS start after age 70?

Posted , 6 users are following.

I'm 75, female, and have been having weird bowel symptoms which started just two years ago and seem to fit in fairly well with IBS. I'll be happy to go into details if I get any replies, but don't want to waste everyone's time if it's not possible for IBS to start this late in life. (I'm not losing weight or getting anaemic btw.)

You can get IBS at any age; it is most common in your teens when my brother got it. I picked it up at 42 but I have also heard of significantly older people getting it. I know an old lady in her eighties with IBS. See your doctor, though, who will run tests to rule out other causes first.

hi lily, i think this can develop at any age, you need to see your doctor, they're the only people who can say for definite what this is. i was told ibs mostly is diagnosed over the age of 35, but i think allsorts of people can get it.

you should go to the doctor to have that checked out they can tell you if you have it. I am 70 but I have had ibs with diarrhea since I was 50 and it sure hasn't been fun you really get a sore butt. but I sat 20 minutes in borax and soda water to help relieve the pain. it really works
