Hi Brenda.  I don't know about Lipitor specifically but it HAS been proven that statin use can cause the onset of irreversible type 2 diabetes.  There are lots of published studies available to read online, many by very distinguished and reputable medical professionals and institutions.  It's worth reading up on it.  I havent read that statins cause diabetes in all those taking them but it would seem a high enough proportion for me personally to base my own decisions on their use.  This coupled with the crippling muscle degradation and high risk of problems with liver function have been enough for me to know they arent right for me, whatever my cholesterol level is.

Brenda...I was on several different statins for over 15 years....and I was diagnosed as type 2....I stopped the statins over 5 years ago......and every time I have my blood glucose checked...it's always good......5.4...5.5.......statins raise your blood sugar...and can cause type 2.....they have to add that to the list of side effects now....it's on the leaflet that comes with the statins....

Statins in general, yes it's proven, it's a fact. In a small but significant number of patients smile
