Can mebeverine make you feel sick?

Hi all

Just been prescribed mebeverine for stomach spasms but found that I'm feeling extremely sick since taking them. I take quite a few other pills in the mornings so have been taking one at the same time but not sure if it's reacting with all of the other meds I'm on?

I think they're working a bit but still swollen & look 6 months pregnant & don't want to add any other horrible side effects to the already growing list that I have!

Thought I had an ovarian cyst as had all the symptoms but doc said she thinks it just the uc still trying to settle down as my whole tummy was so sore to touch.

Any suggestions guys? xxx

Diagnosed with distal colitis in August so I guess it's still early days? 😢

      Hi Lisa

Meant to say thanks for responding. I stopped taking it after your reply and the sickness has gone! I don't think I helped myself as wasn't eating after taking it & taking another 7 drugs with it probably made for a very upset tummy. Thank u xx

Hi Jo,just wondered how your blood test went? How are you feeling now? Xx

      Hi Jill

Nice to hear from u! Bloods came back negative so not celiac. Trialled the gluten & lactose free & felt worse so doing my own food diary now. If I feel ill after eating it then I certainly won't be eating it again! Seems to be working but ending up with lots of cramps and awful bloating still. Corn & raw onion are a deffo no no!!

Just messaged a lady back on here & said that I had a bad stomach last nite & wondered if it was stress related as the last 6 weeks have been so stressful, one thing after another. My dad had a heart attack yesterday & has only just come out of hospital after having a knee replacement so it's all go atm. Hard not to get stressed when all seems to be going wrong eh?!

I'm still taking mebeverine but when I eat as they made me so sick on an empty tummy. Just sick of looking so bloody bloated!

How u getting on now hun? Did u try gluten free? Have your symptoms died down a bit? Hope your doing ok. Lol xxx

Hi Jo,sorry to hear about all stress with dad, sure stress doesn't help, here's hoping he gets well very soon. I also tried Mebeverine, and although I didn't get sickness, they didn't help,so that's another off my list! The wheat/gluten free went well in combination with digestive enzymes for over a week then back came abdo pain big time. Gluten free bread etc is horrid, and expensive, but would happily have stuck with it for no pain ! Been back to docs, who is convinced it's IBS alongside the UC,lucky me eh! She has given me Dicycloverine 10mgs and working like a dream to halt pain! However side effects not so good: muzzy head, off balance feeling and trouble getting to sleep! It's early days and just hope my body gets used to them and that they work longer than a week,Sooo frustrating. Will carry on with the digestive enzymes, think they help a bit,and will only take the Dicycloverine when pain is bad. Also going to trial low sugar and no chocolate (ouch) I have sweet tooth! Will also bring probiotics back at some point! As Maryjo said, everything changes constantly with this horrid disease! Good luck with your food diary and keep us posted xxxxx

Thanks mate, certainly been a roller coaster of events the last few months but here's hoping things will get a little easier now - fc!!

Completely with u on the gluten free bread - ugh!! My hubby bought me some bits from the shop, £60 worth in fact & had 1 bag of shopping! So relieved to find out I wasn't celiac, phew! First thing I did was bake bread after being on these non effective diets!!

Consultant told me that I have ibs too Jill! Wouldn't these ibs pills ie buscopan help us more tho?! I think it's reasonably normal to get it with ibd 😡

Diclycloverine?? Never heard of it, is that for ibs? If so then I'll talk to my gp about it too. I'll try anything like u to get rid of these cramps. I suffer with migraines tho so maybe not good if u get bad heads with them?

I've heard people mention digestive enzymes on here but have no clue what they are - should I get some do u think? Could add it to the collection of meds I take a day!!

Had a bad tummy the other night but no blood and this am just noticed white stuff but looks bright white and not the mucus I was used to seeing? Any ideas?

Good luck with the sugar free. I take truvia in my de-caff coffee, then have a biscuit an hour later so defeats the object -ooppp's!!

Have a relaxing day mate XX

Hi Jo,yes apparently IBS often comes alongside UC ! Don't think peppermint oil caps,Buscopan,Colpermin or Mebeverine are strong enough to help personally, but worth a go initially. Dicycloverine ( Bentyl) is stronger, heard good things about it,but think side effects are fairly common ie I found I had a spaced out type feeling and muzzy head but I had taken 3 that day as prescribed. Am going to try just taking one when pain comes on and see how I go,certainly won't take them when I'm pain free! As you say,I don't want to add unnecessary meds to the mix! Digestive enzymes are produced in stomach and intestine to help with digestion and it makes sense that if intestines are damaged maybe production is compromised? Heard good things about them so got mine in Holland & Barrett, think they are helping,so watch this space!!  Will let you know re Dicycloverine and chocolate famine😥😥😥.  Xxxx

      Morning Jill

How you doing? Just wondered how you were getting on with the dicycloverine? I'm gonna call the docs today and see if I can get a telephone consultation. Do u think they'll need to see me or let me trial them? Was gonna ask for peppermint oil capsules too! Getting soooo fed up of looking like this now and getting severe bloating and cramps every time I eat anything. The mebeverine helps a little with cramping but this bloating is just so bloody uncomfortable. Caught a reflection of me yesterday and I look huge. I'm getting fed up of being told it'll get better, it'll settle down soon, just give it time.....blah blah blah😡

      How's the chocolate famine going?!

      Loads of love

Hi Jo,yes Dicycloverine works well for the cramps, have been trying half a 10mg tab as full tab seems to make me a little muzzy headed and dizzy! Half seems to work but will only take them if I'm home and chilling! Solpedeine + works well for me,I take one in water and if necessary another one later on. Have cut out onions, garlic, baked beans and chocolate, seems to help, but to be honest I seem to get a cramp every third day whatever I eat!! Hope I don't have to give up choc forever😪😥😓 Think I might just have to live with cramps and take meds when needed. How did you get on with doc? What have they given you? How often are you cramping? Ps drinking peppermint tea seems to help me a little too xxxxxx

      Hey Jill

Doc rang finally tonight & she had to look up dicycloverine as apparently it's a brand new drug? She said more than happy to put me on it for a month to see what happens. Also asked for peppermint oil caps too! Didn't want to push it & ask for digestive enzymes!! She said it's mainly used for ibs & told her that my consultant thinks I have that too so she believed that it'd help me out. Glad to hear it's working for u tho, fab! I pretty much cramp as soon as I eat anything😢😢 It's the bloating that annoys me more as none of my clothes fit & I look so fat! I'll try the tea but does it taste of tea as I HATE tea? 😝😝😝 Yuk!

I'm still trialling foods & will be for some time. I know onions are a deffo no no! I seem to be ok on caffeine. My next 'rule out' is fizzy pop & I love a couple of glasses of that in the day but I swear that ain't helping me.

Fed up of this bloody disease already & only had it since the beginning of July!

Loads of love mate & thanks so much for all of your help!

P.s - Doc asked me how I'd heard of dicycloverine & didn't want to go into the whole forum thing so said my fried has uc & recommended them to me! U are a friend mate as u r always there for me with advice & without u & this fab forum, I would feel truly lost so ta lovely! Xxx

Hi Jo,glad you got your presc, let me know how you are on Dicy,? As I said I cut them in half sometimes and still helps. Another name for them is Bentyl, don't know if they are new drug? Solpedeine + works well for me too, just one and another later if needed! Peppermint tea nothing like real tea,and I have it with no milk/sugar,quite refreshing. How long do your cramps last? Mine can be anything up to several hours then just goes, hate this disease too mate! Still get bloating but seems to go up and down? I found Dicycloverine on another site and people swear by them! I'm afraid I don't do pain so glad I've got them. No probs re advice mate,Maryjo is brilliant too, lots of good advice from her, keep in touch matey xxxxx

My 14 yr old daughter has IBS and trialled mebevarine for stomach cramps like you say but it didnt agree with her at all - gave her diahrrea almost immediately. She also tried cyclizine and ondansatron for the sickness but neither really helped. She now uses stemetil when she feels sick - bit better but still not wonderful. Hope things are now settled for you. Meant to say , she takes peppermint oil capsules for the stomach cramps too and says they help.

      Hi Lisa

Thanks for that. That's been recommended to me before so was researching them last night along with digestive enzymes. Not sure what to do now as didn't realise the gp would put them on prescription?!

I seem to live in our surgery since being diagnosed in Aug, I'm sure they'll start 'high fiving' me soon rather than calling me in over the tannoy!!

Glad they help a bit tho, I don't mind taking all these pills as long as the do something!

      Thanks so much lovely xxxx
