Can my flare up cause a migraine?

Hey guys! I was diagnosed with IBS 4 years ago. I've had really high anxiety the past month with panic attacks and stress and I was having a lot of loose stools along with abdominal cramping. 2 days ago I ate pretty crappy at a birthday party and I have been constipated every since. I've also had a killer migraine and completely bloated with the burps every few minutes or so. Is there any way the constipation and flare up of my IBS could cause a migraine and rapid heart rate? I'm on 20mg of citalopram and it worked in the past with my IBS. However it's been 5 weeks since I started on the citalopram again. I just woke up and had some oatmeal and black coffee to hopefully get things moving but so far nothing. Any home remedies and is the constipation triggering my migraine? Any advice would be wonderful!! Thanks in advance

Hi Ashley, sorry you are suffering hun. stress/anxiety is a big trigger for most ibs sufferers including myself, & can also be a trigger for migraines which are equally draining to deal with when they strike. You mention the constipation - I know its a natural reaction, but try not to strain when you are on loo as this will make an "already there" migraine more painful. Is there anything in your control that you can do to reduce your current stress/anxiety or is it more generalised than a specific issue causing stress/anxiety at present? xx

Hey looloo!! I have been taking citalopram for the stress and clonezepam for the panic attacks. I'm not sure exactly what my triggers are. I just put a lot on my shoulders. I strained a little too hard the other day so dealing with that one painful side effect if you catch my drift, and the migraines finally went away. Just slept and drank lots of water, ate oatmeal and drank black tea and things finally went south. Lol thank you for your advice!!

Yeah I kinda stopped with the coffee, drank up some black tea and that got things moving. I'm drinking more water these days than I have my entire life. And gave up the pop as well. Stomach is hurting today, but I had a very upsetting night last night so that's to blame for my stomach being in knots. I'm about to put on some shoes and go for a walk around the park down the road. Do you take anything specific for the gas pains?

Ashely, you can buy simeticone over the counter at most chemists - it will help wind pain & help it to disperse (not embaressingly, just gently!!!). xx
