Can not lose weight

Hi I wonder if anyone can help.

I have been on venlafaxine for 2 years. It has helped my anxiety greatly. I am not ready to cut down or come off my 150mg dose yet, as I still get anxiety.  My problem is , since being on this medication I have gained  18 pounds . I’ve always been a very small eater and has in the past suffered from an eating Desorder.  Even though I eat normally now , my calories never go higher than 1800 a day.  I have tried all different diets and calorie deductions with no success . Not even 1 pound lost.

I am currently restricting my calories to under 1200 a day and I have done this for a month with no success.  One day a week I will allow myself a yummy meal desert and alchahol, but surely this can’t be why I am not loosing weight.  I walk on average 10 thousand steps a day.

Anyone else had this problem and can the doctor help ?.

I have tried eating more, going to the gym and I really don’t want come off medication as my happyiness is more important . Tank you .

    Hi  Joanna,

I deal with this too. It’s definitely the medication and, unfortunately, from my many years of experience the weight never comes off until you get off the drug. It’s so frustrating and if you do decide to get off the med unless you do it extremely slowly and carefully, you can experience withdrawal and get worse depression. I only say this because I’ve experienced it.

My experience is to try to be grateful for feeling good and remember that is what’s most important. I gain 35 pounds though and it’s so hard. I wish you the best. You aren’t alone!
