Can pleurisy be related to old injuries?

I'm not a medical professional, and I'm not trying to diagnose. I'm just trying to learn.

Years ago (maybe ten), a 50-something-year-old man was in a motorcycle accident and suffered a single fractured rib (right side) and a pneumothorax.

Two days ago, he started having chest pain, right side. Hurts most with deep breaths.

Yesterday, he remembered that he had had the exact same symptoms, right side, about a year ago. It went away within a week, and appears to be doing the same this week.

After studying a little online, I'm thinking pleurisy (but what do I know?).

My question is this: Can a ten-year-old injury, e.g., fractured rib and pneumothorax, be related to recurring pleurisy?

Thanks much!
