Can skinniness cause rib pain?

I've had a steady weight of between 7 and 8 stones for a number of years so I haven't really been concerned about my weight. But this past year its felt as though I've grown skinnier even though I'm still at the same weight. My ribs randomly started hurting yesterday, and today it worsened to the point where it felt like they were being pressed against. I haven't suffered any sort of injury at all so now I'm just wondering about the cause. Could it be related to my weight/skinniness

Your weight could be perfectly OK depending on your height and whether you are male or female

I'm 5ft8 and I've lost alot of weight recently due to health issues and divorce. I've got to around 7 n half stone from 10. I suffer rib pain alot, always down my left side. I have to be careful how I lay also as that makes it worse. it's more painful when pressed and can make me feel quite unwell. I've been to doctors and they havent found a cause for it so are putting it down to stress and anxiety. ive had it for around 2 n half years n

I can actually relate to most of that (minus the divorce part) that's exactly how I feel but with me it's on my right side.

It could be costochondritis. Inflammation of the cartilage that holds the ribs together. It can be caused by a tear in some of the cartilage, just by making an arm movement that is out of the ordinary, but sometimes just seems to comes from nowhere. It can take a while to heal but the best treatment is just to take anti inflammatory medication like Ibuprofen 2 or 3 times per day. If its no better after 3 months or gets really bad then do see your doctor.
I suffered this after pushing a child on a swing.
