Can somebody explain this to me? (COVID question)

This is a question about how virulent or 'transmissible' the COVID virus is.

The CDC said that if you wear a mask when flying in a commercial aircraft then there is nearly no chance at all of catching COVID 19. This is surprising. Not to mention that the air in an aircraft's cabin is recycled from the cabin's existing air, so that the virus returns. These days, only some of the air is fresh (cost cutting). But, even if the air was completely renewed and freshened, the enclosed nature and close proximity of the passengers makes it very strange that there is nearly no chance of catching it.

What's going on there?
