Can someone explain Long QT Syndrome to me?

Posted , 3 users are following.

I have recently been diagnosed with LQTS, apparently drug-induced.

Or will it become worse if I take certain drugs?

Has it always been there?

Why didn't it show up in previous ECGs?

Are my children likely to be affected?

Hi, im new to this site and will be posting soon regarding my own heart issue sad i have been doing much research into the heart because of my problem and i have read alot about QT syndrome, Im not at all a medical professional but i will try to explain it from the best of my understanding. QT syndrome in a nutshell is to do with both your heart beat and more importantly its resting rate, a normal heart rate rests for X amount of time in between contractions but if it rests for to long then it could signify QT syndrome. Yes certain drugs can cause QT syndrome but if this is the case it can be reversed by stopping the drug and taking medication to correct the problem, so that would be something i would probably be discussing with the doctor smile It is possible to be born with QT syndrome as it is known to be carried in genes, apparently it can be hard to detect on a ecg(i cant remember why but thats my understanding) yes you defiantly want to get your children tested in case its been passed on. again please correct me if anybody feels like this information is incorrect as it is only my understanding.

Hi Marc, I have Acquired Long Qt as well. Mine was triggered by Migraine meds. No your children will be fine as it was meds that triggered yours so not genetic, or so I was told when like you I panicked. There is a long list of meds you now have to avoid and if on any other meds get a review and question every med you are prescribed. Over the counter ones too.
