Can someone give reassurance to my Hubble re his pain

hi, new to this forum. Hubble has been in terrific pain for last month and can hardly weight bear on his left leg. His pain is in his inner groin and goes down as far as his knee. His inner leg is also swollen. His  X-ray shows severe osteoarthritis (all cartilege gone, bone on bone) and  an MRI also shows aggressive arthritis and oedema. Consultant says that his femur is "angry" thus the pain.He is due for a THR on 18th April, but is nervous that the pain is not from his hip and that he'll still have the pain after the op. Has anyone else who is waiting for/ had a THR had similar symptoms.? Thanks very much for any response.

I had my hip surgery in May and I had exactly the same pain as your husband for about 2 years...I kept thinking it was caused by my back until a xray showed bone to bone. Tell your husband he'll be a new man soon. My pain is no longer, just a bit of numbness on left outer thigh. I had anterior approach.

I have OA in my hips and knees and severe lower back pain. Im not quite sure what people mean by groin pain because im not sure if i have it but if he cant weight bear it probably is his knee.

Im not sure really what to say reassurence wise other than his pain should be better after the op

I had very sìmler pain thought if it's coming from the groin area how can it be my hip? But all the worries and thoughts I had before the opp were all gone as soon as the opp was done. All the pain had gone ok you have discomfort from the opp but you know that will go

Thanks for all your replies, and am pleased that THR relieved your pain. I'll pass on all your comments to OH - it is difficult to believe that pain that is nowhere near the hip can be resolved by a hip replacement. Roll on 18th April.

I had osteo arthritis of the hip bone on bone before my op and I suffered terrible pain in my knee and ankle. My hip hurt when I walked too far but the majority of the pain was elsewhere.

    Good luck

I had the same, and so much pain in my knee that I was convinced it was a knee replacement I needed.. X-rays proved otherwise and I had a THR, all pain gone

    Hi Ser,

Same as everyone else really.  I had pain in groin, front of thigh and knee.  Also swelling below knee.  This has all gone since my THR on 3 March.

    Good luck to your hubby.

Hi i have groin pain with thigh pain and nipping nerve type pain infront of thigh to knee.

I thought the groin pain was initially a hernia!!

But alas my pain consultant (who i see for my back) said no it was the hip.

A diagnostic injection to the hip confirmed that was site of trouble and not my spine causing it (it does cause pain elsewhere).

The xrays and orthopaedic surgeon confirmed the OA of hip and my L THR is on April 11th.

Cannot wait to get better 😊

Hope you get sorted soon too xx

Same as most people who posted on here, I had all those pains, groin and knee particularly my Knee. Had my THR in 2007 and it ha been perfect since then. OK there is pain after the op and it lasts for about 6 weeks but pain relief is available and works and after all the years of pain it is such a relief.

I also had awful groin pain and At first my gp thought it was related to womb or tube s ,so had tests done that obviously showed up nothing . Xray then showed up a cyst. Oa and other problems - all causing the groin pain due to the hip - I never believed it either !!! I had lthr 3/3 and have not had the groin pain at all - lots of other aches n pains but I know these will pass as early days yet - I am 41 :-)

    Hi Ser,

welcome to this forum ... your OH is lucky to have you - from now on you both have a whole new group of friends to whom you can talk, ask questions an share whatever you want to -

Amazing isn't it, that all that pain can be caused by a dysfunctonal hip...

    "Angry" is so appropriate -

Don't hesitate to come back if you have any questions or concerns, okay

    big warm hug to both

    renee
