hey everyone! i'm new to the whole GERD thing. It started 2 & a half weeks ago with constant burping & staying up all night when i knew i should have been sleep. i had been smoking marijuana everyday for the past 4 months & only tried a vapor twice with 3mg of nicotine in the juice for the vapor & after that i started to feel weird, so i checked myself into the ER, blood work was good, EKG was good but i saw something about biatrial enlargement, X-rays were good, i don't have many of the symptoms as others but they put me down for GERD &i gave me pantoprazole, i took it the first day & felt worse than ever so i haven't taken it ever since. now, the burping has settled tremendously so i'm not belching that much throughout the day. i can breathe fine, no vomiting, no dizziness, i'm using the bathroom normally, i tried baking soda with warm water two days ago, drunk too much & had diarrhea, i don't get really bad heartburn but i sometimes feel a level 2 of discomfort in my chest but once i let a burp out, it goes away. no dry coughs, i rarely have to clear my throat, no discomfort in abdomin, no nausea, & no regurgitation. i'm not allergic to anything & the only allergie i have is sinus infection. i've NEVER had any health problems before this. this just started all of a sudden. & now, i have a little mucus in my throat, but it's not hard to swallow and i hope i don't get that symptom. i feel completely normal tho, i excercise & i'm not obese. can anyone share advice?

All I can say is that I've had it for 33 years, and it is getting worse.
I daresay that's no comfort to you, but you did ask.
Stopping smoking, losing weight and watching out for trigger foods are the things I can suggest. Otherwise take whatever medicnes help you.

The pain and burping sound more like just indigestion than GERD which would make sense that it goes when you burp. Just make sure you don't lay down after eating, not for a good 3 hours after, and eat slowly making sure you chew food properly.
You might find it's certain foods that cause it so it might be worth keeping a food diary for a few weeks so you can see if there is a pattern.
Good luck

thanks lesae! i would hope it's just minor. because i feel completely normal, i've been working out. the burps don't really come up anymore. but there are certain foods i eat that makes me burp it up & pass gas. but other than that, i feel fine. no heartburn, no chest pain, i don't throw up, bile is normal color, no headaches, etc. i do notice that when i eat 2 hrs before i go to bed, i wake up in the middle of the night with my stomach growling. then it interrupts my sleep. that's it really.
