Can stool appear just below the belly button?

My husband is 79 and not an easy man. He has severe constipation and he will not take the Cosmocol or lactulose properly. This basically means he goes 5-7 even 8 or 9 days without passing motions and then there is an explosion. Cannot blame the GP and Consultants/nurses - all have explained that the painkillers and patches he is on are going to cause digestive problems.
Yesterday he asked me if I thought he had poo coming through his belly button. There was some dark matter and it did not disappear after a bath. He says he is in no pain. He now says he has had darkness under the belly button for over 50 years and I am over reacting. I honestly do not think this is the case as I do tend to stay with him when he bathes as he is not very steady on his feet, and have never seen this.
He has said I am being a 'drama queen' and he does not want to be carted off to hospital. He has 'mental capacity' so no way am I prepared to do anything without his agreement..........
Could it be some sort of hernia/bowel impaction? If so, I guess it will get worse? If he starts to experience severe pain, then I would call 111 for advice.
Has anyone else had experience of this? The nurse is visiting tomorrow to dress his legs - he had cellulitis so has blisters, and I hope if he allows, to discuss it with her. He is a very domineering man and i am not prepared to put myself at risk by upsetting him but I honestly do not think I am overeacting. He says he passed stools on Monday but not convinced it was very much, as usually there is a lot of mess in his bathroom/toilet and on his dressing gowns. He is a little muddled at times but can then appear very lucid.
Thanks for reading...I know I cannot get medical advice here but just wondered if I am over reacting when I frankly do not think I am.
