Can't breathe through my nose at all.

Hi,
I'm a 22 year old female new to this and desperate for any advice. I have polyps which hang out of both sides of my nose. They are completely visable. I can't blow or breathe in or out at any point during day or night. I've had it this bad since September. ( I used to get relief on one side ) I've been on nasal drops for 2 years, and also 4x piriton a day ( I don't have any alergies that I'm aware of though ) I also have bad asthma which I take montelukast, normal steroid inhalers etc and uniphyllin ( Ive been in intensive care a few times )
To top this I also have a condition hereditary angioedema which causes my throat to swell often and out of the blue. I've been to see an ENT specialist to get the polyps removed. He couldn't get anything in my nose to look, so I've had a CT scan. I only saw the doctor last week and they've already given me a follow up appointment just after Christmas, so hopefully I can get some help soon. But till then, I literally can't cope. The pain to even touch my face is unbareable. I can't sleep. I can barely breathe in general and I'm so down plus it's starting to affect my hearing. I can't even eat properly. I've tried steam. I've cut out dairy. Over the counter sprays on top of my perscribsd drops. Sleeping completely upwards. No joy and no relief. Is there any tips? Anything I could possible try extra? Please help. I've tried to cope with this as I'm petrified of doctors and hospitals as I was a very poorly child.

I'm sorry you suffering so much. I'm not sure why you were on nasal drops and what kind of drops for 2 years, if it is the polyp which causing the problem.
The CT scan it's standard procedure, so that's good you had that done.
Unfortunately xmas time is the worst time for someone to be sick, but you say that your s[pecialist gave you a follow up appointent just after xmas.
I guess you would need to have a surgery to remove the polyps.
Maybe you could give him a call and explain that you have too much pain and speed up the process.
I'm not really sure what you could do meantime,
you could try to use saline rinse, it might clear a bit your nose, but not if the polyps are blocking the way completely.
Pseudoeffedrine tablets can help during the day (it can race up your heart, so not good taking it before sleep).
Do not used decongestant sprays, they make things worse (rebound effect)

I am sympathetic about doctors but still have a suggestion or two about involving them:
1) for your next appointment make a list of all prescription and OTC medications you are taking and for what length of time. Look up the side effects of each. Discuss these with the Doctor. Sometimes fewer meds are better. Don't self medicate.
2) as hard as it is try to reduce anxiety naturally with exercise for example in case this is playing in. I know firsthand it is difficult to reduce anxiety when you are sick
3) your nose throat and ears are all connected so what affects one often affects all.
4) good you are having CT. If you choose surgery to remove the polyps you may get relief but review all risks carefully with ENT.

Hi I live in the UK
I have had nasal polyps for the last 20 years. I have had surgery to remove the 6 times. I really sympathise with you, I suggest you ask your doctor about prednisolone tablets. They are steroids if your doctor is agreeable they may give you some quick acting relief. The My consultant recommends 25mg taken once a day for 10days. This is repeated evey 3 months. Some doctors/consultants give up to 60mg aday. My consultant thinks that 25 mg is the correct dose. He has tested this treatment on many patients.
I hope you.
The steroids do shrink the polys. they don't remove them completely.
Good luck
Bob
