Can't Cope with this Anal Fissure

Posted , 4 users are following.

I got an anal fissure from hemorrhoid Banding. It is so so so painful. It's ruling my life and I can't function. I can't even sit for more than about 5 minutes. I'm having to take time off from work and can't be the mum I want to be to my three year old. It's ruined my life.

I started rectogesic two days ago. Today is day three. The first day it helped a bit with the pain but then as of day two it actually makes it worse.

I'm also taking magnesium, movicol, lots of water, sitz baths, resting,

I don't know what to do. I'm also concerned more that just a fissure is going on.

I'm just not ok and really wish I could talk to someone

Fissures are the worse. I have had two in my lifetime and needed surgery for both. Nothing else worked and just prolonged the agony. It is a life sucker for sure. Best of luck to you. Hope you find relief soon.

Hi, JustMe81, I feel your pain. I developed a fissure after I had a hemorrhoidectomy - surgery to remove hemorrhoids.

I went through a lot of pain and despair, wondering if I could ever heal. Long story short - I'm almost healed now without Botox or surgery. It's been about three months since my treatment started. My BMs do not have the sharp pain any more.

Nothing works 100% immediately. It does take patience. These following things helped -

    1. Rectiv - prescription drug - only FDA approved medicine for chronic fissure

    2. Diet and mild laxative to create easy and regular BMs

    3. Sitz bath and excercise

There are other little things - I think I can write a book about. But those above are a good start.

      Thank you for replying penguin!!

I'm glad to hear you're on the mend. I don't know how you managed with a fissure and recovering from a hemorrhoidectomy.

      Thank you for the suggestions

I'm on rectogesic, is this the same as rectiv?

I agree about diet. Although I've lost my appetite to be honest. I do make sure I have at least breakfast lunch and dinner. I agree about the laxative too. I take movicol

I try and do 2-3, 25 minute walks. I also try and do house stuff as able. How much excercise did you do?

I find I'm in pain about an hour after waking till about 4pm. This is an awful affliction

    Hi, JustMe81,

If you are in pain after walk, you can cut it down a bit. I actually only did 25 ~ 45 min walk once a day. The benefit was more obvious when my overall situation improved.

I know Rectiv says it's the only FDA approved medicine for fissure. But my doctor did mention there are some close-equivalent (possibly less potent) out there.

Due to the diet, I lost 10% of body weight - that's one (and maybe only) benefit smile

Here are some suggestions I have for you to help you through:

    1. Try somee zinc oxide in the form of calmoseptine which has menthol to soothe the area down there as well. Calmoseptine can be bought at almost any local drugstore and can be bought online too.

    2. Try squatting when going on the toilet instead of sitting. This is a much  helathier position and the poop sometimes will just slide out,  no pushing or straining involved.

    3. I would definately take a fiber supplement, specifically metamucil  is what I take evveryday,  in ordr to allow your stools to be soft and to allow them to pass thorugh easily. THis being said, with any fiber supplemetn, you must drink lots of water when using them, or they will not work veffectively. Also, do not take too much as too much fiber can irritate your bowels on the way  out and diarreah actually does worse down there.

    4. I would recommend getting a sphicteronomy surgery if htings dont get better. I waited it out, gave up, had the surgery, and was able to heal within about two weeks. I had a chronic fissure, so I knew where you are ocming from with v all the pain and discomfort.

Try listening to music to distract your mind a bit, especially when going to the bathroom. If you are in writing pain, distract yourself with a movie or TV show right after. Also, to prevent myself from screaming and from putting more stress in the area down  there, i bit down on a washcloth in order to make the tensions with my teeth instead of my sphicter muscle.

Hope this helps!!! If you need someone to talk to, message me.

    Best,

    Myles
