Hi all, looking for some help. My wife has been laid up now for almost a month and half. We've been to 3 different hospitals seen tons of doctors and they just keep passing her along with no concrete answers. Started with a gnawing pain in her right butt cheek for about 2 weeks she decided to go see her orthopedic surgeorn because she has had a spinal fusion is l4 l5 s1 (nerve entrapment) She got mri and everything he said was fine. So one morning she got up took a shower and zap the pain hit her in her right butt cheek wrapped around and up her groin and down here leg. The pain is like zapping, lighting that is debilitating. She went down, could put no pressure on her right side or move her hips the out of line with her body. We went to multiple hospitals had 4 mri's ct scan ultrasounds xrays and nothing. She can lay on the table and have her legs moved any way by physical therapy and can not recreate the pain. The latest diagnosis is piriformis syndrome but latest est specialists believe not that case because she can push on muscle and no pain. So going on 5 weeks of no walking without help of crutches and even then its shuffling of feet. Any ideas?

Hey Karen, they did do ultrasound of her pelvis and didn't find anything. I asked about any kind of hernia because there are alot that are hard to diagnosis right away and the hopsitalist looked at me like I had 3 heads. She had a liticane and corotzone shot to her hip 2 days ago and has seemed to help a little bit she is feeling better numbness has gone away and hasn't felt any zapping electicity pains. She hasn't walked yet without help from a walker to see if she could put all pressure on her right side I guess that will be the real test. But last doctor we saw said no way could be piriformis syndrome which is what hospital discharged her with.

    Hello Chris,

How is your wife doing now? The symptoms and process of bouncing from specialist to specialist sounds all too familiar. The pain is all consuming and is driving me nuts.

Did she also have pain when sometimes putting her weight down and it may sound strange, but that "electric zap" feeling, did that happen when simply exhaling a deep breath? I can't recreate either, but it happens frequently.
