Can't make up mind taking zoloft in the morning or night

Last Friday I started taking 25 mg Zoloft and I took it at night.  It kept me awake.  I already have had insomnia for months.  I took another one the next morning which was a mistake I should have waited till Sunday morning.  All last week I was good about taking it every morning.  Recently this past Friday my doctor said start 50mg. I did.  It made me tired all afternoon same with the next day Saturday.  So yesterday I decided to take it at night.  About 7:30 after dinner.  I never felt anything.  I got in bed at 10 and nothing could not fall asleep.  I was like that till 1am.  I finally had to take .25 klonopin to sleep.  I called my doctor this morning and they said I cannot take one today I have to wait till tomorrow morning.  I have been so upset all day and I am starting to get a headache and more anxiety.  Do you think I have messed myself up? I am going to start sticking with the morning and I would think the tiredness will eventually go away.  I have been on this med two weeks this Friday.  I want to be able to go to sleep on my own and not take klonopin.

    Hi,

No not messed up. Coming from a life long insomniac, I take my Z right when I wake up in the morning, 8 a.m.ish. I lack energy for a couple hrs, then I’m ok. Best part is that I sleep great! Very little insomnia. I believe the Z cut down the cortisol and adrenaline so I sleep well. 8 wks in on 50 ml Z and I have my life and sleep back! Best luck! - x kat

Thanks Kat good to know. I've been worrying so much about this. When is it going to help with anxiety since that's my biggest problem worrying about falling asleep. Did you have to take sleep meds in the beginning while waiting for zoloft to kick in?

No, I struggeled but didn’t take anything for sleep.  Once I wasn’t dealing with panic and the side effects of cortisol and adrenaline left me, I began sleeping well. I believe it was at about the 2-3 week point when sleeping and anxiety got lots better.  Then at around 5 weeks I started breathing again and truly feeling joyful. It just happened one day. I take it early morning so it won’t disrupt my sleep and honestly, I’ve not slept this well in 10 years. I slept 8 hrs almost uninterrupted last night. To be honest, I still have a random awake all nighter that sets my anxiety off and heart palps too, but it’s happening once a month instead of several times a week now.

Hang in there, my anxiety is sometimes slightly there then just melts away, it’s a wonderful life!  Take care and try to stay positive. -x kat
