Can't put my shoe on!!!

Hi all
I'm 8 weeks post LTHR and everything is good except I am still struggling with leg external rotation & pulling my knee to my chest... My physio gave me some new exercises last week but they don't seem to address these issues
I can't put my shoe on and feel pain when pushing my new hip to its limits
I wondered if anyone had a similar experience ?

It is hard when we hear updates of fabulous progress by others isn't it?
These two exercises really work a variety of muscle groups and it takes a while for them to coordinate.
To be honest ... I didn't make progress on them until I extended the count on each individual rep to 10 - this allowed me to extend my stretch better (sort of like yoga - the longer you hold a pose, the better extension you can get).
I think it was Jacqui who reported back from her P that over 20 muscle and other connective tissue groups need to heal after this operation and learn to work in concert. This helped me put things in perspective.
Good luck, be patient and keep up the exercise.
PS - try alternating with exercises for othe parts of your body. Help keep up your fitness, and a change is good.

I still struggle putting socks on without my sock puller and I'm almost 6months post op, If my shoes have laces I can only fasten them by standing up and bending over.
It can take a year for everything to settle sometimes more. You will need patience, some people fly through it and others don't but don't be disheartend you will get there in the end.

I haven't tried putting on shoes the 'old' way. What I do is tie the shoe a bit loosely first and then use the long-handled shoehorn to put it on.
It was a big deal for me to go from slip-on shoes to my runners. I was walking more but not getting the support from the slip-one that my feet needed. So figuring a way to put on runners was huge.
I see we are the same 'age' with our hips -- June 17 was my date. I think patience might be the key word here!
Good luck, Leslie

hi jelboy,
did your PT watch you doing the excercise ? It is very possible that at 8 weeks post-op from this major surgery, your muscles have not healed completely - I think it is great do you are doing these exercises already though -
I agree with Linda - go slow and stretch rather than doing many reps ... but I am not a PT ---
As with sock and shoes, it took me a while too - especially socks - shoes I could only do standing up for a while -
SO far, patience is the keyword here - can't hurry the healing ...
big warm hug
