Can't tell if my pain fits the description of Fibro

Hi there, I've been having LOTS of problems over the span of five years, starting when I was 15. The major ones are frequent low-grade fevers, chronic fatigue, and rapidly migrating joint/muscle pain.

I'm coming to this Fibromyalgia forum looking to see if any Fibro sufferers can relate to this joint/muscle pain, as I've notice many of my symptoms fit the Fibro bill, but I haven't seen anywhere on the internet, let alone on Fibromyalgia information pages, where someone else has described this kind of pain.

I always assumed it was just growing pains, because it feels exactly the same. The difference is that I do not get the pains on growth plates like I would with growing pains. Also, I'm 20 now and haven't grown a centimeter in years. The pain usually starts in the general area of a joint, and rapidly migrates between joints thereafter. It can start in my wrist, then within half an hour it'll be in my elbow, or shoulder, or hip or knee or ankle on the other side of my body. It's never bound to just one side or quadrant, but moves around over the course of a few hours or days. It can range from a dull ache to a severe, sharp ache. It gets worse with movement or stress on the joints, and I always know if I've had a day with a lot of walking that my legs will be excruciating that night unless I take ibuprofen (acetametophin DOES NOT WORK, even in high doses). It's also somewhat improved with heat. Also, there's never any redness or swelling accompanied by the pain.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Thank you in advance,

Sigourney

Hi Segourney, Yes dear it sounds very much like some of the symptons among many, of FM. Try to get a thorough check up at the doctor to eliminate any other conditions. It may be a touch of arthritis as well. However do not despair if you do have FM. It is manageable and there is many approaches to helping yourself with the pain. I take a more holistic approach with nutrition, mild exercise, supplements and managing my stress. Others take certain specific meds. You could ask your doc to send you to a Rheumatologist who can be in the best position to diagnose FM. You may be under a great deal of stress or worry of late also sweetie, that may make your symptoms worse. It will all get sorted out, one step at a time. Maggie xx

It does sound like fibromyalgia because when I go to the doctor and he asks me where the pain is it's very difficult to tell him because like you said it's it moves around and in my case it's like this vibrating pain was severe more s in my shoulders but it's all over and it's just this is severe ache,it's just hard to describe. I'm diagnosed with fibromyalgia and I take Gabapebtin 300mg 2x daily, to take the edge off and allow me to function

Pretty sure before age 20 you'd have stopped growing few yrs back. Sounds like you could be right about other symptoms but only Dr can initiate tests for you. First list all your past medical history then list a bit of family history as we do inherit some ailments and some take years to be triggered.I had intensive blood tests, X-rays, ultrasounds and an MRI before a diagnosis could be made. Do you suffer depression and anxiety, confusion at times, poor memory recall and difficulty with concentrating and how does cold weather, cold water and diet sensitivities and alcohol affect you and ability to get a good nights sleep? To get good results faster, get educated and keep on it. Get them to draw up care plan for you so all can be on same page and follow it carefully , especially when medication is involved. best results with no alcohol and definitely no drugs.list what works and what doesn't . Be very careful with intro of new meds in case they don't work well with something else you are on. Hope some of this is helpful to you. Cheers for. Now:-)
