Can't Yawn

Posted , 3 users are following.

I have read the thread on 'Yawning' and it doesn't seem to fit my problem. I'm desperate to yawn, obviously need the oxygen, but my lungs just aren't up to the job. It's so frustrating and is making me feel very short of breath. Any suggestions anyone? This has been happening for about 3 days now.

The weather here has been forecast as 'Foggy and Frosty' so I haven't been out on my walks as I think it might do more harm than good. I'm trying to discipline myself to walk on the little trampette, but discipline has never been my strongest point.

Still not smoking, but it doesn't get any easier. Probably because so many family members smoke and I'm trying not to make an issue of it. I don't want to become one of those rampant ex-smokers and I don't want to start lecturing them on what could face them in the future if they don't give up NOW. I still haven't told anyone about my diagnosis and my reason for giving up the weed, but will probably do so a little further down the line.

Good to hear that Carole is making the most of her time at the Hospice. They really are the most wonderful and caring places to be.

    Hi Metermaid,

yawning question is difficult. I only did it just before I was put on oxygen but still yawn sometimes - when I have been off a while usually. However, I think you are being very wise in not pushing out into the awful weather. I read somewhere that COPDers should not venture out if the temperature was below 6 degrees - and it has certainly dropped below that recently. I can eel the difference in my own breathing when I go out.

Well done for still not smoking. It IS very difficult when others smoke and I am a bit of a \"rampant ex-smoker\"!! I just hope they don't smoke in the house or around you or your own giving up may not count for as much as it should. I continued to visit smoky homes and became really ill for several month earlier this year, so please be careful. However, I have a very strong faith in your determination! Keep up the good work. smile smile

    Hi Metermaid,

Sorry I can't help with the yawning - I seem to have the opposite problem.

However, I was like you with the smoking in the past. I quit many, many times and what I learned was that if I saw one, I wanted one, I had one!

Finally, I had to tell everyone that they MUST NOT let me see or smell a cig or bring one near the house as I'd only mug them to get at it.

Everyone just sorted things out amongst themselves and I was eventually able to quit - but I never would have if there'd been a cig anywhere near me in those early days (who am I kidding - MONTHS!).

Tell them, you'll be surprised how good they are about it. Set a date so everyone knows...

Hi Stitch, I had a similar policy. I could bear to see cigarettes being smoked because they smelled soooooooo bad but show me a packet and I would have begged borrowed or even stolen to get at it. Thank God my lot ensured they were kept away from me and now I am no longer enslaved.
