Mine is slowly coming back. I'm a week out of the horrible WD's. Starting to remember stuff, still, have brain fog part of the day. But being able to carry on a conversation better than 2 weeks ago. I have learned from other sources to take magnesium for help repairing the neurons in the brain. Calms is a good brand, get off of Amazon. As a fellow on an other site said: " All your symptoms will subside in Time and you will heal ". He also had been through this and Had got out the other side. You will too.

Thankyou Mary!
I’m in such a dark place mentally right now.. I’m on day 10 off this med now, I just want my mind back more than anything!
I have calms, during the day & night ones. And also taking supplements that have megnesuim in them.. my minds just not working properly, I feel brain dead at the moment.
So scared! Can’t wait for this to be over with..x

The "dark place mentally" is unfortunately were we have to go with this WD stage. Remember it's not real, hard to remember that all the time. But all of us have been there. It WILL be okay. And yes I know the " so scared' feeling, you are not alone. You also will get thru this my fellow traveler

Hi Mary - how long did it take for your brain to start healing after stopping the gabapentin? And how much gabapentin did you take for how long? I am five weeks off and I had been doing better, but then everything went to hell again and I can barely think straight. I feel so out of it all the time with terrible memory. Also anxious and barely sleeping. I have never felt like this in my life. I have never had cognitive problems, bad memory or problems concentrating, so this is terrifying. I can't work like this either.
Did you find that your symptoms got better and worse at times?
Can you tell me what other website you referenced above so I can look on there?
Thank you so much - these mental symptoms are the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with, and I've had some pretty bad health problems before. - Amy-

About a month, and I would have a good couple of days, then it would all go bad for up to a week then more good days, then bad. Like it's toying with you.
I took Gaba for at least 7 yrs, up to 1200mg at night for sleep and pain.
If you are 5 weeks off, I would from my experience guess you could have another 5 weeks of slowly getting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, always remember the light is coming. I like you never had any problems with my brain working, remembering detail, it is frighting. I think I remember from another site, it was said that it is as if the Gaba burned the end of your neurons in your brain, and now that all has to be repaired, like a cut on your arm I'm thinking. So it takes time
Some folks on another site said they had quit heroin and it was a much easier withdrawal. This stuff is very bad, I had side effects of it, like heart attacks, burning in legs and arms, hair loss, ringing in ears and a bunch of other things, that at the time I just put down to getting older (63yrs) gained 20lbs too. Lost it in 4 weeks.
I will post the other site in the following email. Be right back
I like you have had health problems throughout the years, but nothing close to this misery

Mary - thank you so much for taking the time to respond to me and comforting me. Hearing that you also had the back and forth with bad symptoms, then a bit better, then bad again, etc. gives me hope that this will eventually pass. This has completely put my life on hold and it still seems like a nightmare.
Can I ask if you tapered the gabapentin or went cold turkey? After going up to 900 on gabapentin I started getting very bad side effects verging on an allergic reaction, so I stopped taking gabapentin (and nortriptyline too, since I did not know which was giving the bad reactions and I had recently increased that med as well). Going cold turkey off both meds was advised by my doctor!
Within 5 days I was in the ER not having slept for 4 nights with the worse panic/terror/heart pounding I had ever felt. The ER advised me to go back on low doses of each medication to avoid the withdrawals (and also prescribed a low dose of ativan for the panic/sleeping). I tried to take the low doses of gaba and nortriptyline for a week, but the original bad side effects/allergic reaction continued, and I was also still in withdrawal from such low doses, so I made the hard decision to just go cold turkey off both meds. Basically I was between a rock and a hard place with no good option. That was over 5 weeks ago now.
Many of the physical withdrawal symptoms have passed, but the absolute worst is the cognitive problems and insomnia. Anxiety too. I've tried so many things to help sleep and I'm only getting 3 or so hours a night. Just makes everything worse. Did you have problems sleeping?
Once again, thank you for your help!
Amy

Amy I tapered for 2 months, I still have problems sleeping, but insomnia was one of the reasons I was on Gabe, beside Pot I have tried the OTC sleeping pills Aleve PM and such with a shot of whiskey Kind of helped. Don't know how healthy that is but. Gaba makes you restless also
It will get better, when I couldn't sleep I would get up and go search for more infor on Gabe, just gave me something to do while I couldn't sleep
