Can taking Aqua Ban (diuretics) affect GFR?

I suffered from water retention whilst taking nurofen.  I have completely stopped the nurofen now and have been off them for over a week but the water retention is still there.  So I bought some Aqua ban tablets and I am  sticking to the recommended dose of 2 tablets 3 times a day but was wondering whether they would affect my gfr?

    Hello TCake!

Not sure I would take any type of Over the Counter (OTC) medicine without checking with my physician. Diuretics or any drug that effects electrolytes and kidney output may be a red flag where you are concerned. How do you know the water retention was from the ibuprofen? That is new to me. I would be more concerned that the water is not going away even with the diuretic.

Take Care of yourself and let me know how you are doing.

Hi Cowgirl918 and thank you for replying.  I assumed the water retention was caused by the ibuforen because I googled it and it seems that taking nsaids can cause water retention.  And as I have only started to pee less since taking the ibuforen, I assumed that this was caused by taking the nurofen.  Now that I have stopped the ibuforen I just want to get rid of the extra water that I have accumulted by taking the Aqua ban. I am taking it as prescribed and I do seem to be peeing a little more, so believe it is working. I am due another full blood count shortly and was wondering whether taking the Aqua ban would affect my results.  I am pleased that I was able to take myself off the nsaids, as I know they are not good for people with ckd, but I don't know how the Aqua ban can affect my results?

It could alter the results and status of your electrolytes: salt, potassium etc.
