Can Taking Pred affect your Hair??

Hi all.
Not posted for a while as things have been going quite well for me. I am down to 3mgs of Pred a day, feeling in general good health, and I almost have my life back. However, as the title of my thread says, I am wondering if taking Pred can affect your hair.
My hair, although always a little on the fine side, has always looked quite good and never caused me much problem. But I have noticed the past few months or so my hair has become very thin and wispy and not looking good at all.
Could it be the Pred that is causing this? Has anyone else suffering from PMR had this problem?
I am really missing my silky locks!

Maybe I am trying to hold on to my youth (having long hair) for too long. :?
Suppose the correct thing to do would be to have all this fine and wispy stuff cut off.
The end of my blonde silky locks, and the end era it seems. :?

I've alternately had long and short hair for years. It was short when I got PMR but it was impossible to blowdry it myself properly when I couldn't lift my arms above shoulder height so we agreed on a bob which, cut well, was so easy to deal with - also partly because we started spending more and more time here and I had to make appointments with Ross 6 months in advance and if you missed one - tough, no replacements! Short hair needs frequent care, that's the only downside. Then we came here altogether and I couldn't find a hairdresser with any clue how to cut  :? and it got shapeless and a mess. Then I found her, we went back to short (and curly now - is that the pred?) and I have had so many compliments since even when I'm not entirely happy about it. Above all - how much younger I look :D
So it's not all bad abandoning the habits of our youth
Hi Pauline - where have you been? Missed you!!! How are you doing?

I have a few friends with thin hair and once they have had it cut theyt are so pleased and some of them have had highlights as if its thin its not so noticeable if its light
Hair condition is supposed to come from within but useing harsh products too often doesent help it either and straighteners can really break of your hair also
Yes I was wondering how you were Pauline Have you been in Spain for a while getting away from the Irish rain !!?

I was in Spain for three weeks with mainly lovely weather....Ireland very cold and dreary by comparison
I have been busy reading up on how everyone is doing so that's why I haven't been posting.
My new injections, coupled with the warmer climate seem to be working well for me and aprt from a little pain in my fingers I am fairly well at present...so long may it last
Love to all,
Pauline.

It's so good to hear how much better you are feeling - sounds like a recipe for all of us to move to sunnier climes! 8) Stay well.

I mentioned this to my hairdresser last week as a few people have mentioned it and she said the only thing you can do is have it cut short and keep it short so no strain is put on it Obviously condition it as then you wont be pulling at it with a brush or comb
I think H&B do manuka honey shampoos etc and as this seems to be good for everything so perhaps worth a try The one thing I had trouble was with my nails splitting and flaking so started taking Hair skin and nails tablets again from H&B (No I dont work for them !!) and they greatly improved
Hope no more comes out

My mother has been diagnosed with GCA and is on High dose steroids BUT she also has alopecia and had lost her hair over 15 yrs ago all of it.. We thought it was from the stress of loosing our dad but now I am wondering if it is the GCA we now know she has. Alopecia is a symptom of GCA as well. Mom has had a very hard time over all these past years dealing with her hair loss to which I had taken her to many specialists who could do nothing. Now she looks cute in her wigs and little caps.. This thread is way over a year old and dormant for that long too. Before I started commenting I read every post on the forum at the time - you'd have a hard job these days doing that!
