Can the mucus on vocal cords be caused by inflamed esphogas

Posted , 3 users are following.

I had this problem before surgery of hiatal hernia surgery and Nissen valve repair. Due to inflamed esphogas from acid reflux. Does anyone know how long it takes to heal the inflamed esphogas after hiatal hernia repair. I am still having the mucus , which seems to attach to my vocal cords, causing me to constantly clear my throat. I do not have post nasal drip and the valve was repaired, so there is no acid coming up into my throat. I also had a CT scan on lungs before surgery, showing no signs of lung problems, This is such an irritating mystery to me. Thank you for your input.

    Clarice,

    Best to you

So you had reflux on your esophogas and that created inflamation?  I ask because I have chest heaviness and breathing problems and recently they did a Berium Swallow and found mild reflux on my esophagos and the back of my throat.  I will see my GI next week which she will read my results but I got them via email so I already know. I remember some time ago I took some chest decosgestion for 2 days and it did a better job than the PPI's I was taking- I told my GI and Pulmo but they both disregarded that as an option.  Now I wonder if I should have taken it for a few days to see if it helps me. Sure, my report did not show any inflamation besides mild reflux. I also had a chest CT some months ago showing all good.

      Hello,

Yes, the acid from the reflux caused my esphogas to become inflamed . The acid reflux medication did not work for me. It just caused hair loss and high blood pressure,( more common in women than men- the high blood pressure). This is why I had to have surgery, to stop the acid reflux coming into my throat. I had GERD., so it was a necessary surgery.

I see, I have GERD  as well but they only found mild reflux .  I do have chest heaviness all day long which gives me breathing problems specially when anxiety kicks in.  I might give the chest congestion (for adults) a chance to see if it helps like Jo45172 said, maybe you should 2 ;-)

I sent for doctors notes on my surgery and when they arrived I was not surprised to see it said the haital hernia was 50% into my chest. I was having breathing problems, I still do but believing my breathing will be restored after my diaphragm heals.

Yes, I agree it should get better after it heals. ;-)   As for me is heaviness under my breast-bone with breathing problems.  2 years ago they said it was COPD because 2 x-rays showed hyper-inflated lungs (mild).  But they they did COPD test and I came out with flying colors, then just recently they did a heart and chest CT and in both I came out unremarkable. I have taken 3 more breathing test with my Asthma Doc with good resuts as well.  So both, My pulmo and Asthma Doctors agree I don't have COPD or Asthma. But my symptoms starts early in the morning at #1 and goes up to level 3-4 late afternoon. They get worse when I walk or eat, and they go away 80-90% when I lay back. I don't have the regular asthma symptoms but is just like my GERD and gastritis, I don't have any of the regular symptoms.  So I believe I do have asthma triggered by my reflux and mild alergies and exercise ( Just walking for now)   Right now I'm stock because they do not want to give me asthma medication because I did take Advair for one month 2 years ago and it did nothing for me.  But back then the symptoms were not the same and it was health anxiety.   Only you know best when it comes to your own health, so sometimes you have to remind Doctors or refresh their memories when it comes to your health. ;-(  Just recenthly I changes my GI and Primary, but just got my blood results which they did just about everything and I came out with flying colors again including blood tests I never had before.

      Thank you Papote53,

I have done a lot of research regarding acid reflux, not that I know it all, but I had to, because like you, I was told I had COPD, asthma. But after being told to take so many RX, that did nothing for me, I stopped taking them. I had CT scan of lungs. All ok. Reflux can cause asthma, broncitas,(misspelled that I'm sure),

And lung problems., so you are right about that. Just goggle acid reflux complications and go to as many sites as you can. You can find out more there than from most Doctors.

I wish you the best. Having GERD is when the valve is not closing properly or at all, thus allowing the acid reflux to come up into your esphogas and causing inflammation and weakens your lungs, which is what happened to me. And like I said before, the reflux RX did nothing to help, just made matters worse. Thank you again.

Thank you, hope all goes well.  I will ask my pulmo to run another test just in case and if nothing shows up I will ask my GI about this option.  Now, endoscopy and Barium Swallow only showed mild reflux so I guess she will say no for now.  ;-(
