Can you get side effects after first dose of Citalopram?

Hello, I was prescribed Citalopram today, I've took my first pill and after about 2 hours my heart feels like its racing and I feel really weird. Is it possible to have this affect so quickly or could it just be something else. I'm getting quite worries and I cant do anything to stop it, I don't know what to do.

Yes, I got instant diaorreah about 1 hour after taking it. Then the side effects seem to pretty much start straight away. I’m on day 15 and feel so much better. Keep going. It’ll be hard at first but the side effects will taper off.

Hi, yes its normal. I think its probably your anxiety messing with your head too because you may be expecting side effects. My side effects stopped after about a week and a half

Yes yes yes you can 100%

This is what made me ill in the first place, a couple of years ago I felt tired I felt down and lonely, but I wouldn’t say depressed.

I went to the dr she gave me 20mg of citalopram, after four hours I had the worded panick attack of my life, my heart raced I was shaking I had no clue where I was thought i was in a dream felt so odd I went to hospital, they didn’t do anything, I never took citalopram again. But the side effects never went away, intact it got worse and worse, and it changed my brain chemicals for good.

After a month of constant panick attack 24 hours a day, I eventually became clinically depressed, I was suicidal lost Waight never slept, intrusive thoughts , it was awful. I needed help now but was too scared to take AD again, but I had no choice and plucked up the courage and trusted my dr and started sertraline.

I got worse before better, but after 5 weeks I was soo much better.

Just please don’t take them anymore, try sertraline if you don’t feel your self still. You will get better just be strong develop a routine and god willing you will be fine. Xx

Antidepressants work differently for everyone. I think 20mg is way too much if you are just starting a antidepressant (not your fault, your doctors fault) but glad you are feeling better on sertraline. The first couple of weeks are always the worse because your body and brain are getting use to the new antidepressant. Stay positive and it will get better x
