Can you have genital herpes for 6 months?

Hi,

Long story short i received oral without protection over 6 months ago and ever since have had complications with my penis and bum also doesnt seem right.

It is irritated/uncomfortable/inflamed/blotchy and just not right or how it was before. Some days are better than other but every day there is something to varying extents.

A few other things, i need to pee more often, my stools are looser, my glans are often blotchy and have bumps which is mkre prominent when erect.

I have had sti tests from GUM clinics at 2 weeks and 4 and a half months and gonerreha, chlmydia, HIV and syphlis all negative. I paid private at 4 months for all the above and 9 other stis including urine for herpes.

I had ureaplasma detected and took doxycycline for a week, tried canesten and steroid cream and no joy.

something has happened but all the GUM docs, GPs lead to nowhere and tell me to forget it. I cant it has ruined my life.

What could last for 6 months? herpes has crossed my mind but all the reading and experts say it wont be that as comes and goes?

Please please help.

I would suggest you need to find a Urologist that you can work with to overcome the issues you have.

You say you used a steroid, who was it prescribed this to you? Is it actually a cream or is it an ointment version - so, is it opaque / clear, rather than being white?

How long did you use it for? How often did you apply it?

      thanks for the reply.

my GP prescribed this for me and was white opposed to clear.

The GP implied a urologist wouldnt deal with my issue.

They think its in my head. Its not. It is 100% from receiving oral sex.

Would herpes symptoms never go away and effect my stools and need to pee all the time?

I have a red mark on my groin, would this be herpes?image

I do not have the knowledge regarding issues with STD's and how these may apply to what you are experiencing.

Essentially, you should not be getting the different symptoms that you are experiencing if this is related to you having had oral sex.

I would suggest you need to see a sexual health specialist - I would suggest you try contacting the major Sexual Health Service in the region in which you live to see if you can get an in-person appointment, and you could also try the major GUM Clinic, again for the region in which you live. These are often at the Largest General Hospital for your region of the country and can call on a wide range of specialists to check on what you have been experiencing.

Sometimes you need to be very polite, but assertive at the same time - emphasise this has been happening to you for 6 months and you really would like to get back to getting on with your life the way it was - you may need to say this kind of thing to a number of different medical professionals until you find one that will ACTUALLY find ways of resolving what you have going on ....

Thank you for taking the time to reply again. I mean that.

I've done the GUM clinic a number of times but will go back.

I'm convinced this is herpes related after seeing the red patch and how i feel.

I will push for blood tests and if not go private. My situation at present is difficult so not easy.

I will be sure to update you where i am

      at.

      Hi there,

So the GUM clinic wont see me. They said they have seen me twice and all sti's negative so out of their remit and said i should go to the GP. I have a rash in my groin as per the pic and still wouldnt see me.They said it didnt sound like herpes. Anyway spoke to my GP and they have said they cant give me an appointment and suggested fungal cream for 4 weeks. All refused to give herpes blood test.

Going to give this 4 weeks and then call my GP again.

It is not just in my head something has happened, i really cant do anything more.

You are dealing with medical professionals - I am assuming the did a visual check of what you have going on?

As a bystander, you seem to be insisting that you have something that is caused by a particular condition, you have had STI negative test results, so as far as they are concerned you cannot then insist the test results are wrong.

I am no sexual health specialist, and this is certainly not my area of interest - but a rash is certainly not one or the symptoms of herpes that I am aware of

I think a more productive route for you to take, rather than reach your own conclusion, and state this upfront (if only to yourself in your head) would be to have it investigated why you have the rash.

You really need to turn this around so you approach medical professionals with a far more open mind - yes you can state what tests you have had and the medications you have tried, but, medical professionals do not like people that are insistent on their own diagnosis, particularly when tests and relevant medication has already been tried.

The best specialist to see would be a Dermatologist.

Yep i understand totally. The rash i had has not been seen by the medical professionals as refused to see me again. Like you said they have done all the test they are prepared to do and all negative. Things only changed after the event so thats why i feel it has to be an sti and potentially herpes as presents itself in many different ways. I state a rash but it was sore to touch, I dont think it always has to be open sores.

I will continue with fungal cream although its not that and go back to my GP and ask them to approach it like it is not an sti.

I am probably a pain but doctors have been poor in my opinion.

Jump on the 'Balanitis' bandwagon thread just below. Lots of people in similar situations, me included. Tests come back negative for everything but still have an issue with glans. Gets put down to 'non specific balanitis' and that's where the journey seems to end with NHS. In short they have no clue as to what's causing it (they will suggest its in your head at some point and some of your associated symptoms may well be, causality vs correlation ) and clearly to be fair it looks a tricky one to sort. Every professional I've spoken to suggests herpes does not present in this fashion.

Cheers Steve i have seen the threads and nobody has found a solution and we seem to be disregarded which is horrific.

I really dont know what to do. i think i am going to go private as the nhs is done with me. I'd rather not pay but need to give it a shot.

i may also purchase herpes supression tablets and see if that does anything. i know herpes doesnt present in this way but id try anything.

I will update anything i find as this has seriously impacted my life.

Keep an eye on it as will post if get any success. I dived in on this next gen sequencing test but still slightly dubious of results. That said its the only thing i have to hang my hat on so likely my last shot at antibiotics so will keep posted. Let me know how the suppression tablets go (take it not over the counter), not heard of anyone giving that a roll yet. Fingers crossed as private is going to get expensive (plus its ultimately the same doctors as the NHS)

There are so many people with this unexplained condition, all different but similar.

£110 for 30 mins with GP, I think if im paying they should care and help more but guess it doesnt work like that.

Its a reputable website but will have to just blag a few of the answers.

I spoke to the herpes helpline and it was actually their suggestion.

Can i ask did it start with unprotected oral? how long you had it? was it rough? i recall mine being quite rough so thinking could be trauma? my meatus dips at the top which it never used to do, like its split? just a thought.

also what are your main symptoms? sorry you have posted a lot so hard for me to track down everything.

Do yo need to pee more? any changes to bowel movements feeling looser? any rashes or inflamation?

Yes to the forst two for me and I had a rash recently no blisters etc but was red and sore to touch. On my groin/scrotum so sort of ticks the herpes box.

Not sure how herpes would effect need to urinate, it hasnt subsided for 7 months since this all kicked off.
