Can you relate to this...and does miralax work for you

Maybe its because I'm 'old'...late 70's... : ) I managed to overcome IBS ...but now my problem is that it seems like my bowels refuse to work...even though my bm is NOT too big or hard... I end up having to 'dig it out.' For several weeks now. Sorry for offending anyone.
Dr told me to try miralax every day but it seemed to not make me feel well...however...I am willing to put up with that if my it gets my bowels to 'working' again..
Do any others of you have this same problem of having to 'dig'...and if so, did something help you? Would you please share? I'd really appreciate it.

Much, MUCH worse than the 'old problem'... So, back to the drawing board and finding a combo that works...I have gotten some interesting ideas from some of these posts as to what else I could try...SO! Here goes!!.... wish me luck! I hope you all have a good weekend, and take care.

I'm doing miralax daily for about 8 days now. But I suffer from chronic constipation. I can't go for weeks some time. But the miralax shouldn't make you feel bad. Your body doesn't absorb it. It just goes down and hydrates and softnens the stool so it is easier to pass. But nothing from the miralax gets absorbed by your body. Just the stool that eventually gets passed.

Hello there 127977,
After a most 'interesting' session with bowels this morning, I think I will once again take a deep breath and re-try the Miralax...This time I will only use a tad bit more than a 1/4 of a teaspoon...
Anyway...after 'not going' for 2 days again, I took Milk of Mag last night and usually that works. Well. Not so. Not this time, first time its not worked; so the Constipation is getting more stubborn...plus I had to manually remove most of it... that gets very wearisome...I drink a fair amt of water...but know I should drink more... I take psyllium husks every night before bed... it simply is doing nuttin', nada, zip... Anyway, #12, I appreciate your taking the time to reply and it has encouraged me... May I please pester you once more and ask you what time of day or evening you think is best? (thanks!)

Hi,
Miralax and any version of it has Polythene Glycol in it. Please "Google it" I was told this by both my colon and Rectal Specialist and Gastronenterolist. They refuse to prescribe it. It still get absorbed into our intestines and many people with bowel disorders, etc..Also have "***** ****" so the Miralax can still be absorbed into the bloodstream. I was also told by the specialists that constant use of Miralax, studied have shown that it can cause Parkinson's disease, Schizophrenia, dementia, Autism in children who take it and nerve disorders. This is considered a dangerous laxative. Not trying to scare anyine, but there are alot out there that are much safer, such as Psyllum Husk Fiber laxatives, etc. Go to FDA website on Miralax and generic forms or "Google" adverse effects of using Miralax.

I was told by my Gastroenterologist that regular use of laxatives will create a "lazy bowel" and you will not be able to go to have a bowel movement on your own. Laxatives should only be used occasionally. Try Benefiber, drink 8 glasses of water, fiber, such as oatmeal, Brown rice, ground flaxseed, shredded wheat cereal or bran cereal, probiotic yogurt, walnuts, strawberries, raspberries, raisins, grapes, figs, this is alot safer than laxatives.
