Can you still teach yoga after THR?

Any yoga teachers out there with THRs? I have practised yoga all my life and been a teacher since 1986. I am now 70 and still teaching, though mainly Chair and very Gentle yoga. From having had extremely flexible hips I can now barely step my legs apart (sideways that is) and am pretty restricted in what I can do. My hip X-rays have shown severe degeneration in both hips for years and I have been offered THRs 3 times in the last 3 years but have kept putting it off as I felt I wasn't in sufficient pain. (Consultant says it must be the yoga!) However I have a bone spur on the right hip which I feel is getting worse and causes pain particularly at night and it presses on my sciatic nerve I think. What I am worried about is whether I will be more restricted after the op than I am now in what I can do in my yoga. I have spoken to loads of people who are happy with their replacements but not many yoga teachers. Can anyone out there help?

    Hi Lesley,

I agree that exercise stops pain. I only ever took paracetamol occasionally prior to my hip op in April 2018. I have always exercised, Pilates, Aerobics, Walking.

Post op, at 5.5 months I started a new Pilates class, a Step Aerobics (very fast) and a Zumba class. I see no reason you cannot continue your Yoga without any problems.
