cancer symptoms from OLP

I have had OLP for going on two years. Not much of a problem just the white lacey lesions and irritated by spicy foods, but now My mouth is much worse with very sore all the time. What can be used to calm it down? Should I be worried about the changes?

Donna if you are worried go straight to your GP or dentist who diagnosed you. It's worth having it checked. My mouth is often sore for periods of time but I can put that down to something I have eaten like spivey or sugary food. I use prednisalone tablets as a mouth wash and then take paracetamol or ibuprofen for pain relief but all cases are different. I think it's worth seeing someone to put your mind at ease. Hope this helps. Take care. Gail

Hi. Mine was diagnosed a couple of years ago, my dentist sent me to a specialist at the hospital. They took a biopsy fortunately all good but confirmed L.P. My specialist sees me about every 4 months to keep a check on things. Definitely go to your gp or dentist they can refer you too, if nothing else just to put your mind at ease

Ask for a biopsy if you're in any doubt, unfortunately my OLP turned to cancer but due to regular check ups with a maxilofacial consultant (6 monthly) it was detected early and curative treatment undertaken with surgery only. Since then my OLP has been much improved and if it does flare up I take golden paste (orally, not topically) which is a mixture of turmeric, coconut oil and black pepper. I've had OLP for 20+ years and this is the only thing that reduces the inflammation (been taking it now for 12 months following advice on here and own research).  It's worth a try!!

I haven't heard of golden paste. Do you make this yourself? What is the amounts of each ingredient? How much and how often do you take it? What does your Dr. think of this paste?

I think that lesions that continually get worse or don't go away should be worrisome. But lesions that come and go, although painful, probably won't cancer.

That's a paraphrase of what my dentist told me.

they are much worse than the beginning. I'm going to see the oral surgeon in July. The funny thing is when I take diflican for a yeast infection I see improvement in my mouth. Has anyone taken diflican to treat olp?

You might tell your doctor and get an Rx for nystatin. It's worth a try.

I've found an anti-viral has really helped.
