Capsule Endoscopy--WHY?

Posted , 1 user is following.

I'm 75 and in the last few years I have developed persistent breathing problems which from reading this forum I believe may be related to GERD and my hiatal hernia. Lung scans show lungs are ok. Has anyone had a capsule endoscopy? Gastro. wants to do this but I don't know why it will tell him any more about my hernia/breathing situation than a regular endoscopy which first diagnosed the hernia about a decade ago. My research on hiatal hernia surgery does not make me optimistic about electing for this surgery--esp. at my age. More careful diet and eating habits can control the GERD. (I don't know what good omeprazole does though--haven't seen much difference taking it.) BUT the breathing problems are not lifestyle related. If I won't consider surgery what else can I hope to do to improve breathing?

Your thoughts? And esp. about having the capsule endoscopy. Thank you!!
