Cardioversion for Afib without any symptoms

My husband, 63 years old, was diagnosed with AFib a couple of months ago. In spite of the fact he doesn't have any symptoms, He regularly rides a road bike at least 2-3 times per week for about 2 hours and he spends about 15-20 days on the mountain slopes for skiing during the winter season. He doesn't have any health issues, except the high blood pressure he has been keeping under control for the last 40 years. In order to fix the AFib, his cardiologist offered him two options to choose from:1. Leave it as it is, (he just added the Metoprolol and Eliquis to his medication list) 2. Try a single cardioversion then Multaq. My husband really wants to get back to a normal heart rhythm, leaning toward the cardioversion procedure, knowing it is safe enough, and his main concern is about the side effects of taking Multaq only? I am wondering whether anybody has any good or bad experience of taking Multaq (or similar medication) before or after cardioversion.
