Carpal Tunnel & Bone and Joint Pain

Hi all,

Been suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome for 7 months now, it's been very painful the last 2 months. I have also had pain in the bones in my fingers and wrist... Is that normal with CTS?

My doctor has ordered cortisone shots to see if they help, bit should I ask for an x-ray as well seeing as I have pain in the bones and joints as well?

I'm only 29 so I don't know if it could be arthritis, but I do work as a cleaner and its alot of heavy work. Anyways any insight would be greatly appreciated!!

CTS is rare in your age group - how has the diagnosis been confirmed? Dr J Bland

I first had CTS at the age of 30 and I have symptoms of arthritis in a few fingers too. My work is repetitive and heavy also and been doing it a long time. I had injections first which lasted 10 years.

You are in a minority. Most patients are over 50 when they first get it but that doesn't mean you can't see it in younger people. My youngest case of idiopathic CTS was diagnosed at 3 months of age. Dr J Bland

How's that even possible when they're bodies are still growing and how did you diagnose it?

To cut a long story short we were expecting it and on the lookout for it. Normally it would indeed be impossible to recognise at that age. Dr J Bland

I was diagnosed with CTS with an EMG and an ultrasound. I am a cleaner and am always doing repetitive motions. Perhaps I will talk to my DR about the pain in my bones.

Im glad to hear the shots worked for some of you, I canr wait for some relief.

Well at least it has been investigated appropriately - did they tell you the results in detail or just "you've got CTS"? I guess the next question relates to the pain - how do we know it is in the bone? If you can give a description of wat it feels like, where you feel it, when it is worst and any aggravating or alleviating factors we might be able to get more of a handle on it. Dr J Bland
