Carpal Tunnel in between appointments need relief

I've just been diagnosed with CTS by my GP today.
He performed a quick test of tapping my wrist and from the first tap symptoms intensified, I explained to him that the pain/sensation is constant day and night with them being increased during the night. I get very little sleep as every position I try sets it off then when I do eventually sleep I wake after just a few hours in agony. He's arranging for an app with a nurse for splint fitting in about a weeks time but has offered nothing to help in the mean time. I feel I'm at my wits end with it already, it's really getting me down .
What can I do to relieve symptoms?

also from standing with your arm hanging by your side shake your hand from your wrist joint.
you can buy a splint from any good chemist rather than wait for the nurse. I found wearing a splint in the night helped a lot.
i got listed for the op quite quickly and then pestered the booking clerk and got it done quite quickly. Has your GPS referred you to a consultant? If not ask for thisĀ
it sounds as if you are in need of a release op. and need to get in the system.
hope something of the above helps

I have tried hanging my whole arm out of bed, half my arm & just my hand nothing helps.
Shaking my hand does help but I can't do this all day long.
I haven't been refered to anyone other than the GP surgery nurse.
With my GP I didn't feel like I was being took to seriously at all. I don't know if I'm over thinking it but I really am concerned that my fingers and thumb is continually numb and my thumb muscle continually aches (I've had no feeling in the tip of my thumb for 4 weeks now).
Further tips, advice and experiences would be a great help as although I know it's not a serious life threatening condition I still find myself worrying.
