Carpal Tunnel Release Surgery After Op Still In Horrible Pain

Hey everyone I had surgery done last Thursday on my dominate right hand and I'm still in horrible pain. I've been dealing with CTS since November 2014. Is it possible that it's been so long since I've been diagnosed with CTS that getting surgery done to relieve my pain 6 months later might've been far too late? My hand is very stiff and fingers are very swollen like baby sausages.

Tiffany C,  I had CTS done in July 2013 on both hands at the same time and have had no relief and it is now May 2015 I went to see a specialist which said if I got another surgery my chances are 40 to 50 %,, I don't like those odds.  I also have said the exact same words my fingers swollen and look like baby sausages.  I am now trying to deal with this and may start pain. management

I'm sorry to hear that you're going thru the same pain. I think my orthopedic waited too long to perform the surgery and I believe it's been so long that a lot of damage has been done. I think I need to go to another doctor and see what they think. I believe after have the special Nerve test done it showed I already had a lot of damage to my carpal tunnel to the point where my hand was always ice cold to the touch and waking me up at night throbbing in pain. I did occupational therapy for a month also had a cortisone shot on my wrist and nothing helped so finally he opted for the surgery. Now I'm home miserable everyday severely depressed because I can't do much for myself and I have to depend on everyone to help me with everything. This truly sucks 😕😕

Hi Tiffany - after cts surgery on both hands I suffered with pain for almost 4 months. I had swelling in the wrist and thumb areas. I was told to exercise both hands to the fullest and not be afraid to use a jackhammer if I wanted to. I waited over 9 months to have my surgery. I am happy to report I had a 98% recovery to both hands. As doubtful as it may seem, your pain and swelling will diminish as time goes on. Hang in there!

You only had CTS for about 6 months before surgery?  I had it for about 30 years, so I hardly think you waited too long.  For me the surgery immediately removed the problems of CTS  I can't speak to your current situation because I did not have the open surgery that I imagine you did.  I don't think swelling in one week post surgery is a problem, but I'm not a doctor of course.  I would suggest keeping your arm raised above your heart, which is always good for relieving swelling.

I hope things work out well for you.  Don't be afraid to call your doctor's office for help!

I had my operation on 16 Mar 15. Around the scar area still lumpy, painful, light swelling around the wrist and finger joints are aeche too. Am still massaging the scar area with Bio-oil.I did not get back the strength as normal yest. The consultant now recommended me to go for physiotherapy.

It is two months now still uncomfortable and painful.

    Regards

    Tomi
