Carpel tunnel post op problem

Hi can someone help I would be very happy to get some information. I had carpel tunnel release surgery 6 weeks ago and I have a very hard and raised area around the scar. Does anyone know if this will go away?  I was expecting the scar to be very sensitive and painful which it is and am doing the massage but didn't expect it to feel like a golf ball was underneath the scar.

I have looked online and it mentions swelling post op but this seems to be getting worse and very firm. I know scar tissue can form but does it go away.  I am massaging almost constantly maybe too much! Any advice would be great.   Thanks

    Hi

i would phone the physio dept of the hospital where you had your op. They are incredibly knowledgable and would know if this is normal. and what to do to reduce it.I had a small lump post op but it has gone now. I like to hope it was the massage that cleared it but whos to know. Stroking your scar with different textures, cotton wool, rough towel, toothbrush will educate your nerves and that sensitivity will go.

    good luck Regards Elaine

This is probably a ganglion or collection of synovial fluid welling up from the wrist joint. No panic, but it may need to be dealth with later. Leave it alone for now and good luck.

Ask your doctor for cica card gel sheets, made by smith and nephew. My scar was turning into a Keloid scar- red, raised, painful, dry skin.

Will take a couple of month of treatment but have noticed a difference very quickly.

Again this is probably ganglion formation. It is a comon complication of this type of surgery. Take your time, it may settle in time.

      Hi

if your scar is tender as apposed to sensitive then it sounds like you have an infection and possibly need antibiotics. I would advise you see your GP or Walk in Centre.

Hi went to the doctors today he didnt make to much sense however wound is not infected which is great news however the pain and redness are cause by my wound drying out so much that every time I more my hand it is tearing the wound open I have however been using lotion but I now have something a little better to use so I should see some positive results in a few days
