Think you would find it do helpful if you could get in fb page. I have posted only today about same symptoms as you. There's so many shared experiences and lots of support. It helps so much to hear other people are going through same and ideas for how to get through it ☺

Hello Nicola! I also had that after surgery: completely numb every now and then in my little finger and ring finger. It was enough just to have the hand lying on a madrass to trigger it. It went gradually away after a while. I've had it only two times since October or so. I had my ct surgery in March 2014. The best way to keep the blood flowing is to stretch the tendons carefully. I guess you've got some exercises?! The best way for me (not saying it's the best way for you, but) to be free from that numbness I sat down on the sofa and pretended I was about to shake hand with someone, holding the hand in front of me like that. But INSTEAD of shaking it, I simply repositioned the fingers pointing more downwards to the floor, but keeping the forearm and wrist absolutely still, just moving the fingers/hand. Up again and I could feel the blood flowing again.

    Hi ken

Thank you for your help and advice,

I have this every night it's starting to go up my arm and my scar burns like it's been on a radiator or something, I have only had one physio session I go again on Wednesday he is using like an ultrasound that reduces the scar tissue he also advised what you said stretching the fingers etc. Does your little finger lock? Mine curls down then locks.

No, the little finger does not lock. My middle finger can still do in the morning. I guess in my case it has to do with it becoming swollen (even if you can´t see it from outside, explained by my surgeon). It can be swollen inside - so I better still do the pumping exercises so it goes away permanently. The burning scar feeling will go away in time. I had it also for 9 months or so, but the worst part was I had no feeling around the scar at all! Holding some things was difficult, I couldn't feel dices or a ping pong ball. It came back just a few weeks ago. I was told by the surgeon it wasn't necessary to touch the scar extra, it would be enough holding things and doing everyday normal activities. I've found out since then that it was an unnormal advice to give, but I guess it had to do with what he found in my hand - malformation of blood vessels and a pretty damaged median nerve. The ultrasound reducing the scar tissue sounds fabulous. Do you have any idea if it helps after 11 months, like my case? I'm in a position I might have to do it all over again plus for the first time my left hand as well.

But I DO remember I had spasms like cramp attacks in the palm, fully visible. It might have been something like your experience with the finger curling. It went away.

      Hi

What you have said is what I'm experiencing, I have only had one session you can't feel it while he is going over your scar but it about an hour or two after it throbs haha but if it helps then I will will keep getting it, when I go on Wednesday I'll ask what it's called then inbox you to let you know it may help you. Yeah my nerve was squashed and hour glass shaped apparently. Touching things I can't feel properly more annoying than anything ha

That deserves a detailed analysis of just how the symptoms have changed. Come and discuss it with me on carpal-tunnel.net - follow the link from the support directory here on patient-co-uk.
