Cartiva implant fail!

Posted , 3 users are following.

I received the Cartiva big toe joint replacement in March of 2017. The implant must have came out because it is now sitting on top of my toe joint just under the skin. When I went back to see the surgeon who did it, he tried to say it is just arthritis developing in a perfect circle but he lied, the implant is out. It never helped at all & I have constant pain. He says the only option is a total fusion with a plate & several screws but my confidence in him is in the toilet now. Is anyone else going through this or do you have any advice?

    Hi Pamela,

I had the great toe fusion after I had a cheilectomy which failed.

The first one was done in 2017. I healed but the pain was still unbearable. So I opted for the fusion. I seem to have had great success healing. And I don't have the pain I had before the Cheilectomy, but you can expect being uncomfortable for some time. I'm still feeling all sorts of pain from the operation. And you can't wear high heels again... and when its freezing , it hurts.

But compared to what I had in pain, I'd take the pain now.

    Good luck!! ******
