Cat Allergy

I've had an allergic response to cats all my life, wheezy chest, runny nose, itchy eyes, very normal symptoms. Over the counter antihistamines do very little, so for the most part I avoid visiting people who have cats, or keep my visits as short as possible.

A very good friend of mine now lives in California and offers us the chance of a wonderful holiday whenever we are able to travel, but every time I visit i am ill - she has four cats.

She does her very best to keep the cats out of my bedroom and has wooden floors throughout and leather sofas, which are always spotless, but every time we visit I suffer the inevitable symptoms - asthmatic symptoms being the hardest to deal with.

Has anyone had good experience of any particular medication with this type of allergy? I'll be honest, I do like a few glasses of wine - I am on holiday after all haha - but something that could help just for 2 weeks a year would be fantastic.
