My Husband had cataract surgery in one eye 5 weeks ago, after two weeks he went back and saw the surgeon, she said his sight had improved, the drops used for four weeks nearly drove him mad it was so painful, he has in a lot of pain in his eye, and has dry eye, we are using dry eye drops, he said its all blurd the vision in that eye, he cannot stick any light at all even daylight causes him pain, and electric lights is a no go.
Tomorrow he has an appointment with the surgeon, he told me he cannot stick another day of the pain, he only gets relief by using a cold cloth over his eye, and sitting with his eyes shut, we thought that cataract surgery was straight forward and help to improve your sight.
he has got glaucoma, and macular degeneration.
Any advise or help or if has anyone experienced the same, it would be nice to hear from you.

Yes it is not normal, one worry is an infection, What about getting some prescription pain killers from you local doctor, l know thats only a tempory solultion but might hold off the pain until the surgeon can find out what the problem is.

Thank you for your reply.
Today my Husband went back to see the surgeon, he has a cold sore in his eye, bit like an ulcer, he did lots of test and couldn't believe that my Husband could not see anything at all just a blur, thankfully he has been given special ointment to put into the eye 5 times a day, but the problem was the pharmacy don't supply it only a hospital, and the prescription is private, so we cant take it to a NHS hospital, we have private health insurance.
Now we are waiting to hear if something can be sent direct to the chemist, this means another day without treatment.
We had not heard of a cold sore in the eye, but at least we know the problem, its caused a lot of pain, he has to go back in a week to check for improvement, so can only hope it gets better soon.

A 'cold sore in the eye' is a herpes simplex infection. The NHS has a good explanation of it, but since this site doesn't like links, just google 'NHS Herpes simplex eye infections' and you should find the page. All good wishes to your husband.

My surgery instructions were to take Tylenol or Advil if there is discomfort with the eye during the recovery period.

We don't have those type of drugs in the UK, but he has been taking paracetamol, but today he went back and saw the surgeon and he has got a cold sore in his eye, very painful and blurred the sight completely in the eye, but hopefully with the treatment it will get better.

Yes, paracetamol is the UK name for Tylenol (acetaminophen). Advil is ibuprophen which may be available as a generic, or a name brand like Anadin®, Brufen®. They are general pain relief medications and I am not so sure how well they would work on a cold sore in the eye. I have found that for tooth pain taking one tablet of acetaminophen and one of ibuprophen can provide the best relief.
