What is your prescription for your left eye contact? Is it around -3.0 D? If so, your doctor is probably saying that for eyeglasses you will likely need close to zero correction in your right eye, but will still need -3.0 D in your left eye. When your left eye is corrected with an eyeglass lens and your right eye corrected with an IOL, this can give you a bit of a dizzy feeling. What I have found is that if you correct the non operated eye with a contact, it is much more comfortable. In your case you should be fine with just using nothing in your right eye and your existing contact in the left eye. You mentioned that you were using monovision. Which eye is the one you use for reading? If it is the left one, you should be fine.

I can only tell you after my first cataract surgery for my left eye, I just continued to wear my contact lens I had always used for my right eye. I had no problem with a contact in one eye. But everyone is different.

I should have mentioned that I think it was a good idea to get the astigmatism corrected with a toric. As far as being able to read when you wake up, if your left eye is about -3.0 D then you probably will have no trouble reading with no glasses on.

      .

Once you get your surgery done, don't forget that this will be your opportunity to evaluate monovision by under correcting your left eye with a contact. I gather you may be doing that already...
