Cataract vision

Hi i was diagnosed with cataracts about a year ago and had surgery in my left eye last week, i have noticed that my vision is not as good as it was the days after my surgery, i was amazed how good my vision for distance was but slowly it has got slightly worse, its still good but not as good as the days after.

Im just wondering if this is normal or due to the eye drops im using.

I would say, give it time.  I seem to recall them telling me not to buy new specs for at least 6 weeks post op, to give my eye a chance to settle down.

Have you been given a follow up appt?  See what your eye is like then

It should have settled down by then.  I had to have some laser treatment at my follow up but it's been great since then and that was 1992!  [I had a steroid induced cataract]

Sorry to hear that ---it makes you so disappointed really , as the first day --things are perfect ---I never missed my drops , kept to the 4 daily all the time , but that I thinks keeps other things at bay , like infection and so on-----my vision the same --each day seem to be slipping back a little ---.On my check up's they said ---it was settling down !!!! but on my final 6 week check , thats when they said I had an imbalance (one eye longsighted/one shortsighted. I have glasses now ---the vision is ok but I do get a 3D effect , at the lower part of my vision --headaches dreadful -----so I am giving them a chance and then will return to try and get it sorted.

Give your eyes a little longer , when you go for the check's mention the sight definately (I think they can see how the vision is looking), keep using the drops (unless they are causing discomfort) in which case , give the hosp/gp a ring.

I do hope all goes well , keep in touch (I'll let you know how I get on aswell) it is good to hear other people's view's

    All the best

This is for anyone suffering from dry eye mine got unbearable after my cataract surgery.  I have an appointment today with a dr.that does Intense Light Therapy for dry eye. It is the newest treatment for dry eye. If this works I will have my life back.

My vision appears to be decreasing, i know they say it fluctuates but it seems to be one way, i was looking at objects the day after my op which seemed clear which now i wont be able to see after a week and a half.

Im just wondering if taking the eye drops would contribute to the vision decrease

I have a vague recollection that my eye was like that too but I didn't worry about it and I didn't think it was going to get worse and worse.  When I went for my follow up, I had to have some laser treatment, which they did there and then and I think that helped.

Don't worry too much and if you think that your vision has deteriorated a lot, then you should probably telephone the Consultant's secretary  and say the your vision has deteriorated a lot.  They will then see you sooner.  If it isn't a huge amount, then try to stop worrying and enjoy your 'new' eye!

I know I didn't worry as much as you seem to be.  If you are so concerned, then telephone the Consultant's secretary and tell her, they will ask you to come in to the clinic.
