Cateract and Tamsulosin

Posted , 5 users are following.

I have a mild cateract in one eye.The consultant had said he can carry out surgery to improve vision in this eye but the surgery is more complicated and carries an increased risk because I take Tamsulosin to treat an enlarged prostrate. He has left the decision to me.Does anyone have an experience of this. I am 75 and in decent health at present.

I was lucky to have stopped Tamsulosin before mine got to the difficult stage.

Most surgeons have dealt with it many times and it should not be a problem. There is a lot of information if you Google cataract 'surgery after tamsulosin'

Thanks Derek,I guess I am the only person to decide,I have read most of the stuff and the surgeons expertise is usually excellent I would think having expeienced the proceedure before. What bothers me slightly is the consultant telling me there is no guarantee of improved vision in the effected eye.

How long were you taking Tamsulosin? I was taking it for slightly less than a year and usually missed out two days and took a Cialis instead.

When I had heart surgery my prostate was so big, I also had prostatitis at the time that they could not get a normal catheter in and had to use a supra pubic one.

That must surely be far to soon for it to have caused floppy iris syndrome.

I have been taking tamsulosin for the last two years and recently have had cataracts in both eyes done, the surgeon said the iris was "flopping about" but he didnt seem to find that problematic and all was well

I haven't looked in here for sometime! I am like you on Tamsulosin, and in addition Finasteride. Apparently the frug(s) can cause something called floopy eye syndrome. There is an article "Why BPH treatment can complicate cataract surgery" in the EyeWorld site, that explains.

I had both eyes done successfully. If your surgeon is experienced, you should be OK
